Coolent temp.
Sup guys, I have a Cobalt LS w/sport package. Just wondering I looked in the manual couldnt find out what is the normal temp the coolent should be at. On my last car there was a gauge now we have the digital read and I dont know what temp. the coolent should be running at. I live in Toronto so its ******* cold keep that in mind.. but generaly what should the temp be.

180 is a little low for a stock car. My s-10 ran about 210 normal. I put a 180 degree therm. in it and then it ran around 180 to 190. The cobalt sc/ss already has a 180 degree themo. in it because thats what it says at running down the road. The other night it was freezing and i had my heater on, and it was staying in the 160's. Then i turned my heater off and it started to go back up.
My 2.4 was running what seemed hot to me, and one day the overheat light came on. Turned out my cooling fan was not working. It was replaced, but I think it was prety crazy to have a broken fan in a new car. So, if yours is running at 235, maybe you should have it checked out.
My 98 Cavalier 2200-OHV engine ran weird... During the winter, it was lucky to hit 150-160F... During the summer, 185F all day long unless I was idling in traffic and then the gage would hit 200-210F.
My base Cobalt with the 5speed runs between 180 and 194 all the time. The hard I run it, the cooler it runs...

Also, people on here keep saying that by putting in a cooler stat, the computer will richen your a/f mixture to try and warm the car to the programmed operating temp. This would just waste gas and take away performance. I suggest leaving the factory temp stat in place and maybe exchanging it for a high flow version of OE temp such as the ones by Mr. Gasket.
My 2005 2.2L runs anywhere from 185F to 190F at speed on the highway, but extended in town driving and idling will make it get b/n 210F and 220F. I also heard that the fans don't come on until 226F. I've seen mine get as high as 227F.
Another note, the 2.2L has a single fan and I've seen a Saturn RL and noticed it has twin fans. I wonder if the twin fans will mount up on my car?? I posted a thread on here asking people to e-mail Flex-a-lite; they have started making direct replacement fan kits for the sport compact market and I'd like a FAL set-up for my car. They said the more interest they received, the sooner they would make one available.
