Dealer Charged me for something they didn't do

I just found out that there was no rust proofing done on my car. I paid the dealer an extra $1000 (CDN) for them to do it. I went to go get tints on my car and the salesman there tried to sell me rust proofing, but i told him that i had it done already when i purchased the car 2 months ago. He laughed and said they didn't do **** to your car. I am very livid right now i am going to rip the dealsership a new ******* once i confront them. Any suggestions as to how i go ahead and deal with this matter so that i can maybe get some other stuff out of the dealer.

Go get em tiger! I would tell them to rust proof it or give me my money back. If they fail to do it mention a call to GM.... I bet that will change there tune.

Have a copy of your invoice that showed you paid for rustproofing, and if possible something on paper from the guy who said that they didnt do jack to your car. (I don't know about you, but i sure as hell couldnt tell if my car was *actually* rustproofed or not..) Then, tell them that not only do u want the rust proofing done, but you want freebies. (Free maintainence for so long, cash credit, or at least free oil changes for life - if you have an ss/sc that will really add up.) And tell them if you dont get the freebies, you complain directly to gm and BBB and if they give you nothing, tell you're calling a lawyer and do it. Even if u don't want to go to court, pay a lawyer a few bucks to call or drop by and rattle them up a bit.

To be honest I'm not sure you need the car rust proofed, today's cars hold up quite well without the extra rust proofing....if they didn't rust proof your car then I'd ask for a total refund ASAP. JMO

BTW, Are you guys going to post any pics of your Canadian get together?

get an email for them and post it. we'll all email them and let them know how much bad word of mouth advertising we are going to spread

there's should actually be a thread called "dealer complaints" or something... this is more crap from dealers than i have ever heard about any new car...

i work at a dealership, and i don't think we've ever rustproofed a car... they used to do that back in the 80's when cars rusted more, and didn't have rust-through warrantees... they would actually drill small holes in the doors and pillars and shoot it inside the panels, so u never actually saw it, u only knew it was done from the plugs they used to cover the holes they made... now, we undercoat cars, which is the black gooey stuff sprayed under the car that u actually see... its mainly a soundproofing...

Oh man, do you have any idea how much the owner of Roy Foss is worth? Do you know why...'cause the ***** is a crook!!! Just like Dean Myers is!! Avoid these dealers if you live in the Greater Toronto Area!! Friggin' bastards. Be sure to visit OMVIC's site if you don't your problem resolved with the dealer. Further , send an email to wheels@torontostar.ca and tell them your story. There is nothing worse than bad press where dealers are concerned.

P.S. Tell them about this forum and how large the audience is. The power of the World Wide Web!!!

Ya i think my car came rustproffed but im unsure. cuz after i crashed it and got the insurance quote it has statments on there telling the autobody to rustproof it all aswell as painting it. but maybe its a concern since its being repainted? i dunno but just my 2 cents.

and i would go down there and cause some mayham. this guy called me at work b4 saying crap like " i see how your parents raised you" and crap like that cuz i never called him back cuz he stalked me. the next day i drove down there in my 1 day old cobalt and bitched him out and let them have it. and then took off in my brand new car that i didnt buy from them. i dont think i was ever so mad in my life as that guy calling me at my work asking to talk to me ( i worked on a dock at a airport so they had to page me to the office for this guy to get his last say in) . and ever since then i was happy

its a gimmick, its easy money for em, cuz cars dont really need it
all it is, is a rubberized undercoating, which only really helps with soundproofing

Most of the time ... the Dealer will sell it and then they send it out to get it done by ...
XXX Rustproofers or whatever ... and then get a kick back for the referall and whatever they upcharge on the actual cost...

I too was offered the "Rustproofing" package when I bought my car. It was amazing how much they wanted to charge. I just took mine to a small shop where I knew a great job would be done. I watched him spray the stuff everywhere salt could get. Wow does that stuff smell bad. Only $200, total rustproof, and no damage done to my car because of it.

eric, is it the black gooey stuff they sprayed on? thats undercoating, not rustproofing... its just mainly a sound deadener... whatever its sprayed on under the car, probably wouldn't rust anyway...

I think GM has a 8 year warrenty on rust don't they? If the metal rusts through within 8 years they have to replace it. Don't quote me tho.

And if you really want to stop rust WASH your car on a regular basis.

I'm quoting you, I know in '95 when the monte carlo was "re-released" it was one of GM's first cars with double sided galvanized steel body panels, which were covered by a 10 year rust through warrenty.
I'm not sure what the current warrenty or protection against rust is on the Cobalt, just hope it never ends up as bad as my '92 Cavi, the bottoms of my outer door panels are rusted off of the inner panels/frame.

This is right off of www.chevrolet.com

Corrosion Protection
Chevrolet vehicles are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended. See your Chevrolet dealer for terms of this limited warranty.

You have to be sorta careful though. GM's warranty is against rust-through or perforation.

That means your entire car could be caked in rust. All the paint fallen off, rust everywhere, and they don't have to replace a single thing so long as the rust has not perforated through the metal. If you drive in a really bad area (like the GTA in Canada), rust-proofing still isn't a bad idea. Especially around areas like wheel wells and the bottoms of doors that get caked w/ snow and salt.
