Dealer locate...Anyone done it?

I found a Cobalt SS to my liking option and price wise at a different dealer in Texas. The dealership here locally that found it for me said it's typically a couple of days in ppwk process before they can even transport it. If anyone has done this before, is it true? I have to go out of town for business for a week this Thursday, I really want to get my car into my hands before then.

Yeah, I used to be a salesman at a chevy dealership and when a customer wanted avehicle from another dealership, we went and got it same day and did a dealer trade. We took them a vehicle of equal or slightly greater value and picked up the other car. if they're telling you a few days, just go over to the other dealership on ur own and get it cuz that's bull

As long as they have a runner you could have it same day, he is pulling your chain.

Hmmm...Yeah that definitely sounds typical of a dealer. Thanks, I'll give them a call.

Even if they don't have a runner it can be done same day. I personally went and picked up a car for a customer from a dealer 40 miles away. Myself and another salesman went to go get it. So, while a runner is handy, they're not necessary.

OP, how did you pay for a car that they don't have? Cuz it's illegal for them to sell you a vehicle they don't have on their lot since they technically don't own it right now.

Interesting, I was basically told the opposite by the dealer (should have known right?), hence I had to sign the paperwork up front before they would get the car. Granted I did make them sign a notarized waiver saying if there was anything wrong mechanically, option wise, cosmetically, that I was under no obligation to take it...But regardless, if that is the case and I've been lied to, I'll be making my way straight there after work.

It's possible the laws are different in your state. But I know for a fact that if you were gonna buy a vehicle at Premier Pontiac and Renacci Doraty is the one that has it, they legally cannot write up a purchase agreement on said car. They can have you sign a document that says if they go get it, you agree to pay for it provided all terms have been met IE the document you had the dealer sign. But, they still can't make you pay for something they don't legally own. Unless it's a sister dealership owned by the same company, then those rules don't really matter. That would be like YOU selling MY car to someone else....it's not yours to sell off. If I were you, I'd go down to that dealer and find out what is going on.

Thanks a ton for the info Mike, and it really does make complete sense. I wondered about that as well, hence the reason I made them sign that waiver.

Hah, talk about timing. The dealership JUST called me. Car should be in in a few hours. Cross my fingers.

I hope it all works out for you and they don't screw you over and try to hand you a used Aveo 5dr or something lol But for next time, just remember, they can't sell you something they don't have on the lot unless it's coming from one of their sister dealerships

Welp, they never called back so I went up there in person. They said it would be delivered and when I called them out on the sale they said "well technically we can still void the paperwork so it's not like you have signed anything in stone just yet" (exact words) lol, too funny.

It sounds to me like they had you sign the purchase agreement in advance, which is totally illegal if they've already sent it thru. It could be helpful simply for the fact you won't have to deal with all that after they get the car, but it also takes the haggling aspect out. I would be very wary on this deal and be careful what you're signing and such. This dealership seems to be trying to rush everything along for some reason and it may not be in your best interests. Personally, i would tell them to not worry about going thru the hassle and then I'd go to the dealership that actually has the car and just buy it from them. I just get the feeling there's something fishy going on with this transaction

well parkway is actually pretty good in sales. but idk why would they take so long to get the car for you. i would walk out on the deal and go to munday chevy. cuz they are really bad ass. got both my cars there and they had to transport one car down to me from austin. so i had them put it on a truck instead of driving it from there. and make sure parkway doesn't drive the car from where they are gettin it cuz u don't know how the driver will drive when they got all this highway in front of them. especially its a turbo cobalt.
