I'm in the same spot you're in. I tried Meguires Scratch-X too and it didn't seem to do much. Maybe I need to keep trying.

Did you really mess up the bowtie when taking it off? Because otherwise, why not paint it black, put new double sided tape on it, and put it back?

I'm not flaming you guys so just relax, ok. If you took it off the right way there would be no scratches. I used a heat gun and my fingers to pull mine off, not one scratch. I just kept rubbing and rolling the black glue until I could pull it off. The fishing like thing seems to work well too.

If the scratches are shallow enough maybe some buffing compound to smooth out the clearcoat?
If they're really bad get a paint touch-up kit.

Mine looked really bad when I took off the bowtie. After lots of cleaning and buffing and reapplying wax over and over it got a little better. You have to be close to really see where the fishing line rubbed the trunk.

I used fishing line, and when I was able to pull it off, I saw clearcoat scratches. I had to use goo gone to get off the tape residue left where the middle of the bowtie was; the scratches for some reason were where the ends of the bowtie were. IDK

OK, I see, the fishing line made the scratches?? Like I said, I did mine two years ago, right after the car was new, and just used my heat gun and fingers. I was careful not to scratch the paint with my fingernails too.

Maybe I shouldn't have done it when it was freezing out?

I use a Portercable 7424 buffer with white foam pad or orange pad for deep scrathes. Menzerna Intensive polish is very popular and I think 3m makes a polish that NAPA stocks. Another good sit for detailing stuff is Autogeek.net

thers a post i made because i did the same thing, i used turtle wax polishing compound and some rubbing compound. use the rubbing compound very lightly rubbing the area. then follow with the polishing compound. ill try to find the post. it worked very well. try Nu-finish scratch x also. but the turle wax stuff was awesome! try that before getting into the rubbing compound.

could just need some polishing

ill try n find the post

eewwww fishing line....BAD. It takes a little more patience but floss and a hair dryer/ heat gun is a much MUCH better method....that is the right way.

As for the scratches, you have a black car, which is a freakin scratch magnet it seems. If you are very experienced with auto body ( I wouldn't recommend this if you aren't) you can lightly wet sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper then buff the **** out of it with the different levels of compound and they will be gone. You have to be pretty knowledgeable to do that though, cause it takes literally nothing to sand through the clear completely... then your fucked.

Good luck!
