Question Do our keys have chips?

I work at The Home Depot and we have a device that tells whether your car key is chipped or not, because if it is chipped then we can only make a replica that can lock or unlock your car, but it wont start it. I thought our keys were chipped, but I ran it through the device and nothing happened. My supervisor said that it wasn't chipped. Just curious so I can go back and tell him whether his device is broken or not. Thanks.

It should have a transponder built into the black plastic part of the key thats why they cost so much AND why if you get one made from an outside source they don't work for anything but to unlock the doors.

That's what I thought, but like I said the device didn't react and he tried it and it didn't react so he told me that I didn't have anything in it. I wanted to argue, but I wanted to make sure first. It's not a huge deal, I just hate it when people try and tell me something different than what I already know, or what I think I know. LOL. Thanks.

I work at Sears and we have a key transponder checker too. Our keys are encrypted with an encryption code from Philips.

Your checker may have a dead battery.

Yeah I thought of that, but I read it and green means good battery. I just think we have a piece of poop. Oh well, at least I have an argument now, so I can go back and rub it in his face.

the best way for u to know that u have a chip is o the key fob hit the lock button 2 times so the car beeps, but leave your window open, now walk away from teh car to a distance where teh wireless fob wont lock or unlock the doors, leave the keys there and go back to the car, unlock the lock by hand and open the door see what happens. Now try it with the keys in your hand.

lol, that test sounded like too much effort and i didnt understand what he said. We do have a transponder chip. thats why us guys with the autostarts have to place a key in the system so that the can can start. I only have one key now. cuz the spare is in the autostart

well i found out that when the key part itself has a small plus sign on it it means transponder equipped the lock guy said it was a Z cut keytype which has no meaning to me but the plus sign tells it all.

The only thing that's going to do is set off the car alarm and force the person to run back to where they left their keys so they can turn it off. Nice try though.

When I worked for Chevy in the parts dept I cut countless thousands of keys and I can asure you that both remote start and non-remote start cars do in fact use the same key.
For them not to would get confusing, remember the general public are morons and if you ask them questions about thier cars opions most look at you like a deer caught in headlights.
