It sounds like Force Lightning whenever I fill up at the gas station. I make sure to touch the metal body BEFORE I open the gas cap.
This is the first time I have heard of someone with leather seats getting static.
FWIW, I too have found that touching a metal surface while getting out works - but usually you just feel the static discharging as you exit the vehicle instead of getting one big zap. I've tried using my knuckles, elbow, and even my butt. I can get shocked touching the glass. Once I tried not to touch anything and see how far I could carry the static. About 500 feet away, I go to open the entrance doors to the facility and I get zapped big time.

I've gotten nasty shocks through nitrile rubber gloves, heavy winter gloves with rubber finger/palm coverings, and even my cowhide leather gloves. I've gotten shocked just touching the glass on the window.

I was considering making a thread but didn't want to seem like a jackass!
Everytime I get out of my LS I get shocked.
I open the door just fine, but whenever I touch that crevice which the window rests and the lining is I get ******* ZAPPED by all that god damned lining, cause that's how I open it.
