The hhr switch is sweet. it has a white led that shines on the radio and has express open and close. i would love to replace the one that keeps falling off on mine and use that one. do you think they might be compatible??? even if the express open and close doesn't work i would love to retrofit it in!

sorry for the craptacular pic. Its dark out and my camera was dying so this was the best of the 2 shots i got. This is a pic of the switch sideways. you can get the whole switch without the onstar microphone as well. the switch is on the ceiling and the led is a mood light that shoots in the general direction of the radio. It's pretty cool looking.

the switch without the onstar microphone has a little plastic piece in its place.

my mother has a HHR and she hates that light. It's always on and she's thinking about putting something on it so it doesn't show. She doesn't have a sunroof though, so I don't know about the buttons

I second that. Actually...I'd love the steering wheel from the new Malibu SS. I think it's basically that, but it says SS in the center. I've also always liked the Pontiac Vide's steering wheel. Black 3 spoke style like that.

I am feelin' you on that little LED though. I'm a valet, and I love driving Lexus' and stuff. They have those kinda things. Or like on my grandpas SSR, it has one that shines on the shifter. An awesome low tint orange-ish color. So when you shift it looks awesome. I don't know what else it's supposed to be for, but I like them.

Certainly keep us posted. I'd love one of those LED's...and yes...the sunroof button is crappy.

A lot of the new Chryslers are coming with that too, up in the map light housing there's a soft indigo blue led that shines down onto the hvac panel.

The switch would not just plug in to the existing harness . But , if you had the pin outs for the hhr switch , and had the pinouts for the cobalt switch and understood how to splice in the HHR switch , it will work . You could basically make any 12 volt switch work . I might take a trip down the dealer and check the switch out anyways . If anyone does this that has onstar , the existing onstar microphone wires in our car would splice right in the new switch . Probably better to just get the switch without the microphone though , I dunno how you cover the hole the old micro was mounted in .

As far the 3 spoke steering wheel , it will directly bolt onto our steering column . The only real issue would be airbag compabilty . Do the 3 spoke bags have the same airbag connector as our airbag ? With all the electronic stuff Ive done with GM stuff inside , I would about guarantee the radio/cruise controls have the same connector for both styles . While Im at the dealer today I will check part #'s to see if the airbag clockspring ( its what transfers power from the column to the steering wheel ) is the same part # for the 2 . If yes , it'd be a direct plug and play swap , if no ....I'd leave it alone . I wouldnt want spiced in airbag wiring anyways.

This sounds awesome. The steering wheel swap has been done by prelude owners to get the s2000's steering wheel. Anyone know the size of the HHR steering wheel?

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread...I'll start another one for this question.

Yeah, Honda guys have been doing it for awhile. We found a really nice older style BMW 325is (I believe) steering wheel at the junk yard. It was like the old 3 spoke MoMo ones. It's really clean. We scored it for a good price. but when we took it home to try it on our CRX, it had more little spines than the CRX one. Oh well. It still looked cool. lol.

Well , I looked at HHR's today . Comparing to mine , it looks like the same sunroof and the HHR switch panel bezel seems to be the same overall size as the cobalts . So it appears as if it will just pop right in there . Soooo , Im gonna order one . The wiring will be a breeze

As far as the steering wheels go . If anyone does this , dont use the HHR wheel . The steering wheel is not ebony , the darkest steering wheel is more of a medium grey thats hella lighter than ebony . It would however work in the 4 doors that had light grey interior with the lighter dashes . Cars you can get the steering wheel in ebony from , that also had radio controls are :

2006 Malibu SS - which also replicated the silver stiching in our steering wheels . Tinted shiney aluminum like accents

2006 G6 - satin( dull) charcoal metallic accents . Red lighted radio controls

2006 Saturn Vue - aluminum like silver accents , white radio controls like the chevy's .

The Malibu SS airbag will directly bolt on to any of those wheels
