Dodge Viper VS Chevrolet Corvette?

Which would win? Just curious. And what are the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?

In a drag Idk, but in a track race the corvette would win (I'm talking about the C6, the Z06 would rape it nomater what)

Z06 kicks tail! 0-60 is 3.5 sec from Car and Driver. Best time in the 1/4 totally stock (including tires) is 11.30 at 127 (Ranger in CorvetteForum).

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1453447

BTW, I may be biased in the matter. My Cobalt SS/SC is my daily driver and I'm using it to teach my kids how to drive stick. Stage II will be installed when I get the Vette.

My MY07 Corvette Z06, is being made in Bowling Green the week of August 21. I should be driving it around Labor Day. The Big Dog is coming!

I'll be taking the level II drivers school at Spring Mountain on Oct 19-20 in their C6 Z06.

Let the good times roll!

As much as I love Vettes, I'd have to disagree that a base C6 is a better track car than a Viper. The Z06, however, is a different story. That car is simply a beast, although for the first time that I can remember, it seems the harder of the two to control on a track.

These are the best times from the Nurburgring in Germany

Corvette C6 (not Z06); 7min 59sec
Dodge Viper; 8min 10sec

I've got a race on my computer. Its a Viper SRT-10(Borla Exhaust) vs. a ZO6(Stock), and the Vette took him by a car length.

Theres a reason dodge is redoing the engine in the 07 viper which wont be out for about 6 months. It cant keep up with the vette. There was a time when the viper could beet the vette, those days are gone.

That's also a time from a 1997 GTS Viper. The SRT-10 will blow it's doors off. (although the only time I've seen was done by a shitty driver) Here's a much more detailed list.

Clicky.

First of all the standard C6 Vette will NOT beat the Viper in a straight line, out of the hole type racing. However, it won't lose by much more than a few car lengths. IN THE CURVES, the Viper loses by a hair.

Now comapring the Viper to the C6 Z06..well there is no comparison. Viper loses out of the hole, and cannot claim a defined victory in the top end, as the Z06 tops out beyond 190mph, possibly 195mph. Once again, in the curves, the Viper gets WHIPPED HARD. Viper's claim to run high 11's. Z06 CAN run low 11's, but it's a hard thing to accomplish so I've heard. So you have a Viper, which has a stiff suspension, but not as nimble as the Vette by any means. The car weighs about 3400lbs, +/- a few. 510hp, 530ft/tq, I THINK. The car has massive power up to the first 3500rpms, after that, everything falls off very quickly.

The Z06 weighs about 3100lbs, again +/- a few. 505hp, 470ft/tq, I'm sure of this. The car produces a very broad power band with loads of torque from 3000-6000rpms, and horsepower continues to increase all the way to 7000RPM. Since the suspension is computer monitored and constantly adjusted throughout the drive, it has excellent response to the road coarses which it has been tested on. It also has EXCELLENT brakes, which do not fade...something you might experience in a Viper after a few laps of hard braking. I'll also add that the Vette has additional changes to make the car even better. It's lower, wider, and has a better center of gravity since the motor is mounted lower and further back in the engine bay. The car also has an entirely aluminum frame and fiberglass body, with the exception of carbon fiber wings and magnesium body parts as well. Aside from the fact that the car has a good suspension and braking setup, I've been told by actual Z06 drivers two different things: "The car can drift a straight line". And my favorite, " you don't need brakes". You guys are comparing it to a car that does not compete anymore. Compare the Vette to the Ferrari 575 and you'll see no difference in performance. And since the Vette costs $200k less (this is an exaggerated figure), it's obviously a better buy. It's the best sport car for the money, period.

Oh man, how I envy you!

The new Z06's are absolutely insane, that, and you don't have to worry about burning yourself on the doorsill like in a Viper! I like how the latest generation Vipers look, but most of the mags say that Vipers are way too untamed w/o traction control, the heat in the cabin due to the exhaust placement etc. So, it's Corvette all the way!

Although, I may be a little biased, after all, I was brought home from the hospital when I was a baby in an '81 Vette!

Then again you can also get the Lingenfelter for $45,000 plus the invoice paid for the car and still have a decent warranty. 800whp twin turbo Vette. Doesn't hook up very well. I suspect the Venom Viper doesn't either. I mean, they already have traction issues off the lot. BOTH of them. You can also get the ALL-MOTOR Lingenfelter LS7 for I think about $5000. Adds 100hp and I think 100ft/tq. Makes the car effortlessly run low 11's, and if your a good driver you can have 10's for lunch. All for about $70,000 bucks, still cheaper than anything in it's class by a LONG SHOT.

The base vette doesn't compare to the the viper, and I would say even on a road course.

The viper loses to the Z06 barely 1/4 mile, but it's close enough to be a drivers race until the higher speeds. The viper also loses to the Z06, usually by about a second or so on a normal sized road course per lap. I don't know if I would say there is no comparison, as Road and Track thought it was close enough to choose the viper over the Z06.

The ZO6 has the odd monicer of a luxury sports car that can BEAT a Drivers sports car. That is the real end of it.

The Viper is a drivers car. No Traction control, it MIGHT have ABS. No funky ride hight adjustment. Just power and wheels and you.

Yet it still is in a vette price category.

If they sold it for what it costs to make the car plus some profit it would be a 40k car. Somehow like the vette.

Also you will not find a non SRT fiper today being sold. So the only "fair" compairson is the Z06 and that isn't fair to the viper at all.

Viper does not handle so good, as it has a 1000+lb engine in the front of the chassis. It also doesn't have any street credits such as comfort, ease of driving, and things that rich people that can afford the car value from time to time. I believe that Dodge needs to rework the Viper and utilize all that power. Point is, Chevy has taken less money, less engine, less car all together...and made something more out of it than the Viper offers. The Viper does pull more p***y though, since the majority of people have a stereotypical view of Vipers "outstanding performance", not knowing where the real value and performance is found.

Actually, upon further review, the Z06 and the Viper tied on the road course in the latest road and track magazine, both with lap times of 1:19.5. I've seen other mag tests where the Z06 came out slightly on top, but not by much.

Sex appeal (hotness of exterior) = Viper
In a Drag race = id say viper, though it is mostly a drivers race
Interior hawtness and comfort = z06
Handeling overall = z06
and most importantly:
HP per $$$ = z06

honestly id get the z06 cause thats more affordable.

But if i had the choice of the 2 and money wasnt an issue, id probably go viper. I see more corvettes in my end of town then i do cobalt ss/sc's lol

Check out the latest...it's either R&T or MT, but they have a pretty in-depth test of the Z06, Viper, Ford GT vs F430, 911 Turbo, Lambo Gallardo. The Vette out-performed the Viper by the slimmest of margins in almost every category, but the editors picked the Viper because of how confident it felt on the track. Pretty neat article.
