Mine just has the opening with no grille. do i need one of these or am i fine without one?

 

you talking about the lower part? if so, you don't need one and will be fine without it. that's why a lot of them come from the factory without them..its an apperance mod whether you want it or not. me personally I swapped for the TC grilles

 

Yes every SS Superchared came without one, and every N/A SS came with one.

I prefer the look and the protection for the a/c condenser, but it is not totally necessary.

i will always try and have SOMETHING to protect my intercooler from damage. or A/C condenser in the supercharged cases

I have the OTTP Stage 2 h/e and I don't have room to put a grill in. I had to notch out 2 small pieces so the bumper actually fit, a little triangle shape for the corners. I probably could have mounted it back just a bit more but it works just fine....just wish I had something to protect it.

 

well I think if a raccoon flies into my front a flimsy plastic grille wont do much

 

same thing happened to me with the s3 zzp h/e...
