does the 3rd brake light up when...???
you step on the brakes?

tonight i got pulled over for my 3rd brake light not coming on when i hit the brakes, and i didnt think that light came on when u hit the brakes?

The correct term is Center High Mounted Stop Lamp, in accordance with the GM Owner's manual (CHMSL). We call it the 3rd brake light because that is what it does! I am surprised you got a ticket for it though, since your regular brake lights should be working.

well i didnt get a ticket for it and he pulled me over telling me it wasnt lighting up, then i go back there and all 3 of them are lit up

You can replace the three 912/921? bulbs with LEDs. This way they'll never burn out.

The cop was probably lying. Looking for a reason to pull you over, he chose something that you weren't really gonna deny at the moment. Something easy enough to believe.
