Nice thread, I had no idea that they cut the fuel off while coasting at higher RPMs, I was always a fan of just leaving it in neutral or coasting with the clutch in (quick side note for anyone with a NEW car, the GM manual recommends NOT engine braking for the first 500mi or something like that, i'm not going to get into why as that's always a hot topic).
I've had my clutch cable break on a motorcycle I owned and got to learn clutchless shifting on my own (downshifting wasn't fun... the starter was able to move the bike in first which is how i got going) but with a hydraulic clutch I don't know if there's much of a reason to risk clutchless shifting in this car, since if you have a leak in the hydraulic line you will be out of brake fluid as well and you might NOT want to get the car moving...

The clutch and brake systems share the same resevoir - my 535i is the same way. Not sure how any other cars are set up though.
Smart? Don't know but I don't see any real issues either......unless you manage to break the resevoir off somehow

Hey,
Practice moving the car and stopping it using only the clutch. then when you're starting out, i think it's easier to get on the gas a little before letting the clutch engage. so clutch in, rev to like 2000, slowly let out the clutch till you start moving, then let it out fully and get on the gas. then after a while, you'll get a better feel for the balance between clutch and throttle.
Thanks.

Competitive Mode is only for TCS/ESC settings, it has no bearing on the speed with which revs fall. You're just not shifting fast enough. Keep practicing!

As for launch, you friends are retarded. For a fast launch you let the clutch out quickly while giving it about 2,000-2,500rpm. Minimal wheelspin, maximum forward velocity, and you aren't dropping an anvil on the drive line.

No, absolutely not. 3k is fine for normal driving (even sooner if you're really fast) and if you're racing, shift right before redline.

Hey Force,
I got the same Gislaveds on my 08 TC. What is the recommended PSI? I inflate to about 34 but they look a little flat...

haha the heel toe.!! u mustPractice practice practice to learn it.
then sooner or later it will come naturally just like a proper rev match.
i can't explain it . you just do it. like 2nd nature. lol
haha MT FTW!

The NLS is extremely simple, you just need to get the timing right. You have three tenths of a second to complete the shift.
Important: The tach lags behind actual engine speed. If you begin the shift when the needle hits redline, you'll smack the rev limiter. You need to begin the shift a few hundred RPM before redline in order to get the timing right.
Don't slam the gear, just shift briskly and keep your foot planted. If it works, you'll only see the car lose a psi or two on the boost gauge.

care to explain double clutching for me? and speed shifting/shifting without the clutch (how the **** would you do that?)
I've only been driving stick for a few weeks..and im more curious how you do these than anything, despite the fact i will never use them myself.
I've only been driving stick for a few weeks..and im more curious how you do these than anything, despite the fact i will never use them myself.
i've done it through all the gears in my car, and with mine (ss/sc) i do it by speed.
take first gear up to about 18 mph. then u can (like most speeds) just bump the lever out of first with no clutch. if your tranny lets you, u can bump it right into second.
then u accelerate to about 24 mph, and do the same into third.
these rarely seem to work though, the only one thats useful if ur too lazy to use the clutch is going from 3rd to 4th at about 30 mph.
ALSO NOTEWORTHY (maybe for the original post) u don't need the clutch to take it out of gear, like if u are in 4th and coasting to a stop. i didn't know this for the longest time LMAO until my buddy told me. However, it works best at certain engine rpms, like 2-3 tops. 5th is usually hard to get out of, so u still DO need to use it sometimes.

ok... upshift question... i only do this when racing...
i try to shift really fast, so right when i shift, i dont give the engine time to drop rpms, and i let off the clutch. i feel a jerky lurch feeling...
is this bad? am i messing something up when i let go of clutch too fast when engine and trans arent spinning at right speeds?
