Dyna Mating The Car

Hey guys...Trying to find if anyone has thought about or has dyna mated there car. I sick of all the rattleing noises from the door and sides of the car. I want a nice built solid car that doesnt ssound like its falling apart.

The only reason our cars seen to be better then most cars that cost over 30k is because they were not put together as well. I know most of you already know that but i dont like the thought of it. I know the engines amazing but i wish they would have spent more time making the car more durable.

Im planning on taking the interior door panels off the car and putting dyna mat under both door panels.. Lining the trunk with it. Trying to find a way to get the siding off the back seats and put it behind there. I plan to completly dyna mat the interior sides of the car . Both sides completyl done and the trunk. Possibly get the floor done but i doubt that b/c i dont think it would make a difference anyway.

Any suggestions or tips i could use to help me would be great. I still need to get all the interior siding off the car so help with that would be nice too. THANKS

I put Dynamat on my trunk for subs. It works wonders. I see no reason why it wouldn't work anywhere else on the car. I'd worry about the weight though. That stuff is heavy and may impede performance if you put on too much.

didnt know dynomat came in "paste foam stuff"?????? The foil sheets are very heavy. I was decently impressed with dynomat sheets, but the weight was a huge downer. I would invest some time in troubleshooting instead of just ripping the whole interior out and putting in 50lbs of dynomat. some rubber washers, matting, and time would work wonders and at under 1 pound most likely for all noises, it destroys the weight increase of dynomat.

Just a thought.

PS you bought your car for a reason right? its price. Not its quality. Its no Jap/German car.

I'm talking about the tar material with Dynamat foil on top. Don't settle for cheap stuff. This is the only material that will really work. I had hard-hitting subs and this eliminated the rattle almost completely.

Is that to say we have poorly constructed cars—as if the Japanese and German cars are so much better? They're all just cars. One may look better or be faster, but in the end, they're all just cars.

I was just in a wreck. Some idiot in a Land Cruiser owned my back end. This car is sturdy as hell. My car is not totalled, despite the fact that most cars would be. Plus, I'm impressed by the interior quality, and I only drive a base model. The Chevy Cobalt is a great car. If you disagree, why would you be on a Cobalt forum?

The weight is a big downer , but I will be dynomatting the entire inside of SS . We just did this on a friends 02 Z06 , with the cam, headers , offroad x and the exhaust it was annoying inside ...the dynomat made it nearly as nice as stock inside the car cruising around town . We gutted the entire interior though including the dash , and covered every square inch .

I guess my post did come off as if I was looking down on the Cobalt, but indeed I was trying to do the oposite. I am a huge fan of the Cobalt, my girl has an Auto 2.4 SS, nice car for sure. I am actually thinking of getting a SS/SC. It is on my short list of next cars.

The point of the last part of my post was to say that the cobalt doesnt have the interior quality, fit/finish of the jap/german cars. But you didnt have to pay for that either. The cobalt is a great car, but no, the interior isnt up to foreign standards. Interior squeeks, rattles and noises are to be expected in a 15-24k american car. This statement isnt a bad one, its just the truth. One of the reasons I am looking at the Cobalt is for that very reason. I miss working on my cars, even if it means pinpointing a noise, its fun. Dont get so offended, you bought the cobalt for its looks, performance and quality at a reasonable price. The new Civic Si is slower, and dumb looking on the inside, but the quality is a step above anything from Chevy.

If you read my post, I offered my opinion on what the OP should do if he is hesitant to add the extra weight. With time, it is effective. Dynomat is a good last resort, it will def help.

Actually, I did notice that some of the panels aren't flush. This happened to me after I installed my new deck. Some dash components feel loose or look out of place. But as for the colors and actual quality of each part, it's pretty good. It's no Ferrari, but I'm sure as hell proud to drive it. As for speakers, damn stock speakers suck. Mine are better now.

I have seen the 07 Si and it is pretty nice.

There is so many diff types of dynamat...look on the website and then under the audio section. The dynaliner is what you need and its very light. All together may add an extra 5 pounds.

What do you guys expect from a car that is mass produced by machines with minimal contact from humans? Especially with as much plastic is in the cars. Chances are dynamating won't solve any of your rattling problems seeing as dynamat in this application would work for stopping outside noises. Plus we have warranties for squeaks and rattles, have your dealer look at it.

I used a dynamat like product in my car. Dynamat is actually a construction insulation beleive it or not. You can buy the stuff is large roles for much cheaper than what dynamat sells it for. All dynamt does is put there logo on the foil and cut it into smaller pieces.

Now maybe this is just me, but I like hearing when I have cams, and an exhaust, and headers. I Could care less about it being quite inside. I rather hear it and think to myself "**** YEA THAT SOUNDS AWESOME"

...But thats just me

It gets old when its a daily driver , trust me . Different strokes I guess . You want the full effect ? .....thats what power window switches are for You can still hear the engine just fine with the windows up , all the drone and resonance is gone though .

I would want dynamat in my ls. The wind noise when I don't have the radio up drives me crazy, though it is a big step better than my Tracker lol... But I really noticed it when I road in my friends xa. His whip is quieter than mine when it comes to unwanted ambiance. This material in roles intrigues me though. Where can I get some???

IF you need a paint on solution goto http://www.elementaldesigns.com and look at eDead v3 I just did my trunk using this stuff and it's amazing. Mix it with a bit of water in a small plastic cup and it goes on just like paint.

It is relavent because I dont own one, and was commenting earlier from memory, then I drove one again and wanted to post that it confirmed my earlier posts. That the quality isnt horrible, but its not awesome, its ok. Nothing that would deter me not to buy the car.

Oh and thanks for looking out for all the posts that you dont think go with a thread. Thats really nice of you. I will try to contact you to proof read all of my posts.

From what I have gathered from this thread, there are a few new styles of dynomat, some that dont weigh as much. I am only familiar with the black sticky stuff topped with metal, which is heavy, but effective. Like I said before, you might try getting some various softness rubber sheets and spending a few hours pinpointing the noises, it would save weight and prob some time. Also, if they are panel to panel noises, dynomat prob wont solve that, but some felt tape would. At last resort, dynomat will prob help, but add weight and require you to strip the entire interior out. Good luck, and keep me informed on what you do.
