You asked where I was when the GM engineer was doing the presentation. I said the same pronunciation as you did

You are right, but the GM folk told me it's taken from these words:
  • economical
  • ecological
Which are typically pronounced with the 'echo' sounding.

I have to go with GM on this one! As it's their product, we have to assume they know how to pronounce it

Well...not really.

I as well as others pronounce "Ecological" "EE-co-lodge-ick-al" People are "Eco-minded", not "echo-minded". It is the study of "Ecology (EE-cology) not "echology"

Just because Bob Lutz says it one way does not make it so...hell I know more about his current product line than he does :P

Also...if it means "emissions control optimization technology"...do you say "M-issions" or "EE-missions" yeah...thats what I thought :P

I don't mean to sound 'know-it-all'-ish, but when I look up the primary pronunciations, I find these:

ecology: [i-kol-uh-jee]
ecological: [ek-uh-loj-i-kuh]
economy: [i-kon-uh-mee]
economical: [ek-uh-nom-i-kuh]

So it's really just a case of yet another word that has multiple pronunciations. But it seems GM chose the primary one for their staff and advertisements to use. Understandable

According to my GM sources, it's not about that phrase.

And you're gonna hate this ...the correct pronunciation for emission: (ĭ-mĭsh'ən). Not a long E!

I chose the Cobalt for fuel economy. If I wanted performance, I would have gone with the Mustang instead. That's why I don't do performance mods.
glad to hear...
