End of the line for Cobalt SS Supercharged
End of the line for Cobalt SS Supercharged
And now, the end is near
The calendar may read June, but auto makers are already starting to make product announcements for the 2008 model year.
Although Honda has been grabbing all the headlines this week with its decision to kill off the Accord Hybrid (a potential canary in the hyped hybrid coal mine?), Chevrolet has quietly decided to drop its sportiest of Cobalts and Ford may abandon yet another segment.
A General Motors of Canada source who did not want to be named confirmed 2007 will be the end of the line for the Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe. Apparently the Cobalt’s 2.0-litre supercharged four-banger will not meet the more stringent federal emissions requirements for 2008.
Although the GM official would not corroborate, windingroad.com speculates Chevrolet is building a Cobalt-based HHR wagon with an “SS” badge, pilfering the Pontiac Solstice GXP’s 260 hp turbocharged, direct-injection four.

We'll still pass emissions testing though, right?
That kind of sucks. 3 years, I am thinking our aftermarket support is going to stagnate pretty quickly after they kill the SS/SC (if this is true)
Where did you read this?

You all know that GM cancelled the SS/SC because of all of those idiots who are ditching the factory SC for turbo setups. We need to be blaming those guys for this crisis.
So I guess this thread(s) refutes those 2008 turbo Cobalt threads proving all those threads wrong.
I think we should also get a lock on all the soon to come 2009 turbo Cobalt threads, even though I hope that is the way the Cobalt goes.
