Engine Control Module (ECM) loose
Engine Control Module (ECM) loose
Is everyone's ECM (Silver box in front of positive battery terminal box) loose to the touch? Mine is a friction fit, and moves a lot...I am thinking I may have to add a screw to keep it in place....
If you go into the engine compartment on an SS/SC, does yours move a certain amont?

mine is loose i thought the same thing and i zip tied it. last time i took it to the dealer the ******** cut my zip ties and told me "its supposed to be like that" so oh well they can replace it when it dies.
They are all that way. The box they sit in is the same for all the cars, but each computer is a different shape. If you have an automatic, there are two computers, in case you ever wondered why there are two slots there. It's perfectly normal. I've never heard of a computer failing due to shock.
Shock would not register...generally, an ECM just...fails...and is replaced, not put on a bench at the dealership and repaired. If an ECM fails due to a broken or fatigued out solder connection from being constantly shaken, that can't be determined unless a rather comprehensive failure analysis procedure is done on the unit. And that does not happen to every unit....
Mine started to rub on my CAI. I thought it made a couple of holes in it, but I found it before that happened. I filed down the two fins that were causing the problem just enough so it won't put holes in the CAI.
