Thumbs down Engine Power Reduced

Yesterday was the one day I car pooled to work. When I returned home I thought, maybe I should go to the store. When I left to go to the store my car RANDOMLY did the engine power reduced thing. Have you guys seen this message randomly?

If you dont know what I'm talking about, basically the car turns on, and barely runs. Can only go about 20mph, doesnt accelerate past 2.5rpms in second.

Anyways it was working fine the night before that, and today when I went to leave for work everything was a-ok. Even when i went out to lunch today the car worked fine.

Any ideas?

Get the codes pulled. Could be a number of things, but a bad coil pack can do this

Havent had the chance to check codes yet, but check engine light went off and now everything is working as normal. Driving to pittsburgh from kent tonight (and back) lets see if it holds up (fingers crossed).

I'll let you know when i get the codes checked what the deal is.

before i get to more stories on this issue heres the code-
P2135
P2176
___________

Today this happened to the max. So very frustrated now. Starting to think after I pay this car off I'm for sure selling. But today this happened on the way to work. I left, everything was okay, halfway there (20 minutes in) and ENGINE PWR REDUCED.

Okay so i turn the car off, open the door, turn it back on. Message is gone, start driving, about 30mph and BOOM again.

Okay same routine, but this time it stays there.

Try again, this time wont even turn over.

Wait, try again, okay we're driving, happens again, try again

----THIS TIME THE SCREEN READS "ENGINE DISABLED"

WTF!?????

So, then I pull over, get out unplug the the computer, plug it back in, and drive the rest of the way to t work no problem.

NOBODY ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM????

Your throttle body is likely bad. Replace it.

Check your throttle body connection and make sure it hasn't worked its self loose, and chase the wires back a bit and look for cracks. But I would bet you've got a faulty throttle body, order a new one and problem solved

Whatsup dudes. I cleaned my throttle, (all connections were in perfect condition). Then I had a high idle. I relearned my idle (had to force it, but thats fine - i found the process somewhere on this forum i believe). No more codes, no more reduced engine power. Praise God.

Hello friends. The problem happened. Got worse really. More frequent.

I unplug the computer, count to "10 mississippi" and then plug the computer back -then i can drive free once again. (until next time).

But last night I unplugged everything again, cleaned up the throttle body a bit more and the "tube" going into the bottom. checked all my connections and sensors, even tightened everything really well. The sensor near the air filter was missing a screw so i tightened that down.

Really sick of this. Made it to work today tho. Ordering a new throttle body. Can I replace it myself or does it need programmed. Also, I think i'm missing some things from my engine bay. Does anyone have a good diagram of the 2.2?

Why? people do it all the time. It is a very simple device.

If there was nothing wrong with the item when the engine blew why would there suddenly be an issue with it now.

It's your money.

BTW a cheap TB is probably not a heck of a lot better than a used original GM part.

most likely a rebuild or cheap jobber part where they pay little attention to tolerances. Chances are with a cheap unit you will end up with idle problems and off idle stumble if there are air leaks.

A genuine GM replacment will run you a lot more than $150 bucks

NOW i'm concerned. Replaced my TB with genuine piece. Yesterday I got the engine pwr thing again. It wasnt as brutal to me, first gear always being a dick. But went to the bar for a couple hours and when I left the car was back to normal. Hope this one was just random. (I only had a beer guys calm down).
