Engine swap
Hey guys, long time reader first time poster. I want to start off by saying I have a beautiful red cobalt ss, have had her for about 5 years now I believe. As you all know we have gone through some tough economic times, and money is tight. I have tried everything to get better gas milage without getting rid of this car, because I love her to death. I have lightened the load quite a bit. I have removed little things like the spare tire, trim, and the back seat is removed. I have lighter wheels too. Everything was done very tastefully with the seat removal and there are 2 subs and an amp in place of the seats, (nothing heavy) Oh yeah I also removed my hood too.. Anyway, let me get to my next project so you guys can help me.
Im looking to do an engine swap. Nothing stronger, my plans are quite the opposite. I want to get a significantly weaker engine because I believe this will inevitably improve mpg. My goal is to get near 50-55 mpg. What kind of engine would be a good fit?

I was thinking of using a prius engine or one from a geo metro, but does it have to fit PERFECT? Or can I work around that.
Thanks in advance.

Dude, seriously concider why you're getting grilled here. Estimate the cost of a new motor and the fabrication to get it properly installed into a car it doesn't belong in. You don't need a Metro SS!!! It'll cost you way more than the gas savings. Just get a cheap, fuel efficient dd like an Aveo or something. They actually did a study proving that because of it's price plus good mileage the aveo beats both Prius and the Smart 4-2 in savings.

Who said Im going to be paying anything for labor? I have a few hook ups. I would just need the engine. and what ever other parts. besides its almost more of the challenge of achieving the best mpg so i can say I did it, a goal I want to see through.

Think what you want bro, my friends down at the shop ow me a favor, and my next job is gonna be free labor. so its either this engine swap or an air conditioner mod idea that I have been throwing around...but that would be counter produtive
