Exhaust Recommendations

I just recently purchased my 2007 Cobalt SS/SC and have not been caring much for the sound of the exhaust. It's got a Shorty header, 3in catless downpipe, and is straight piped all the way to the end, with that it gets a little to high and ricey at over 4000 RPM. Im wanting to keep it loud but i would like more of a low rumble. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I had a zzp catback with resonator on my lsj and loved the tone of it.

I think you would be happy with a ZZP system as well. If you want the most refined sound possible with that setup I recommend Cat, resonator, and muffler option. As you already have a 3in catless downpipe that I doubt you want to change out at least get the resonator and muffler in the cat-back system. Less resonators/mufflers you have the more raspy it will be. Here is a video clip I took just for exhaust sounds and it is on TVS 2.2 with ZZP LT headers with catted 3" downpipe, 3" cat-back with resonator and muffler.

Whole reason it's such a long video so people can hear what it sounds like in all driving conditions. When I was picking out an exhaust and watching many exhaust videos too many would just start up and rev and then it was over. It's nice to hear it doing some pulls and cruising. Its just missing some drive by shots.

I had magnaflow cat-back on before I bought the ZZP setup. It sounded raspy and ricey and was bad enough to make me spend money on different system. Here is a video from when my car had Magnaflow cat-back

unfortunately its impossible to make a i4 car engine sound good. if the exhaust is audible it sounds bad.

of course IMO

i like all sorts of cars and engines, some good and bad qualities about everything.

i think the only way someone would say a i4 car engine sounds good is if thats all the know.

but of course this is IMO and no reason for anyone to get butt hurt.

there is a reason people plug their ears and give dirty looks when obnoxious fart can blasting cars drive by. diesels sounding the same just deeper

blaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

its terrible lol

Yea because it has a fart cannon. We arent recommending fart cannons here. And there are plenty of people who are v8 guys that enjoy a nice sounding i4. Maybe youve just never heard well built one.

Personally I love a good sounding V8. The old mustang used to be my least favorite car but man do I like the sound of that 5.0 Coyote engine. I think it is much harder to get a 4-banger sounding decent. I get what Johnny is saying. I do think that some 4-cyl do sound good. I am happy with the way my car sounds now with ZZP's exhaust but I do not think it sounds amazing.

Ya 4 cylinder sound sucks. Unless it's high rpm and compression.

V8s and Diesels, especially the 6.0 Powerstroke sound great. But can be obnoxious. I think with 4bangers it’s all personal opinion. I basically just have the biggest magnaflow muffler on mine which gives it a deep loud tone. It’s been on about 6 months and I’m wishing it was a bit quieter now which is funny because I love my ear killing loud 03 1500 exhaust
I seem to see a lot of people rave about ZZP exhaust. That’s what I would have gone with if I was not trying to save money to fix other stuff on the car.

my 2016 duramax sound ok with the stock exhaust, same with my old hprc cummins. i just dont liek the pipe that straight pipe them or whatever and it sounds like a hurt fart especially they're so loud at part throttle.

Exactly. People need to learn loud doesn't mean good.

The worst I've heard was a 5.3 with true dual exhaust and no x-pipe.

Turbo's make good noises but they don't make your exhaust sound better. They're mufflers.

It's all the extra fuel burning that sounds good.
