Exhaust size question
Exhaust size question
I was thinking about getting the GMPP touring exhaust because it is cheaper than the Corsa. I had a Corsa on my old 2.4 SS and I loved it. My main concern now is the diameter. Would it really hurt me that much to slap on the 2.25" GMPP vs the Corsas 2.5"?
Depends really on your performance upgrades for the future.
The GMPP was tested and build on GMPP parts (including tested with GMS2 as far as my research goes anyway)
If you ever intend on putting out more power, be with either things like engine builds or ever a smaller pully, you should really look at putting on a 2.5
As you start adding in more performance, you may get to a point where you need to be at least 2.5, or even 3" (if you ever get that much power, of course)

Thats what I thought. I was leaning more towards the Touring models of either one because I dont like interior resonance or extremely loud exhausts. Looks like I'll have to shell out the extra $100 and get the corsa! Thanks dude.
Since you already have the vibrant header just complete the package with their exhaust.
P.s.-Do you think with all that will your car fail a noise inspection or a ticket for road noise?

you should just use the corsa you already have, for now. and get other mods instead.
lol, you need to learn to keep your opinion out of posts asking for facts.

The most important thing to understand in the cases of having an engine that is naturally aspirated or supercharged (turbocharged engines don't run off this method post-turbocharger) is that when you increase the diameter, you are getting rid of backpressure...yes but you are at the same time effecting the velocity of air traveling out of your exhaust system. It's basically taking the good with the bad.
Why is exhaust velocity important? Exhaust velocity does have a direct relation to your powerband and where it is located which is why it's very important for you to pick the proper size exhaust system in the first place. The wrong size can effect your powerband in the negative way (well, negative to you as the user of the vehicle). The slower the velocity, the later in the RPM Band your powerband will be moved to. If off extremely, it will make the performance of your engine very peaky or at worst, make you lose power.
A very good write up by Adam! Which brings me back to why I didn't wan to go with a 3" cat-back. I like having power/torque in the lower end. I don't drive a damn Honda. I like having my peak torque at 4500 not 9,094,500,596,003,923,000 rpms. But that leaves me with the question do I want to the the GMPP and get a little more torque in the mid range and lose out a little in the top end and go with a 2.5 sytem and only gain in the top end.... Damn. Choices choices...
More than likely. Wait do you mean higher or lower? With just the cat back and a stock header anc cat I would doubt it would move it past the redline.
Because I dont have it anymore and it wouldnt fit anyway.
Cars wont fail an inspection for being too loud. Cops can give you tickets though. You can fail for having no catalytic coverter or a hollowed out one. I can technically fail an inspection because the high flow cat I have with the vibrant header is throwing a P0420 code. Catalyst efficiency below threshold. But I'll have that all cleared up when I get it dyno tuned after my stage 2 install. Cars with high flow cats can pass inspection as long as there are no CEL's.

Ok, now I have a question. I have the Megan Racing exhaust right now, which is a 2.5", but it is a little too loud for my taste. I love the way the GMPP exhaust sounds, and I love the way the Borla sounds, but they are both 2.25". I plan on getting a 2.8 and supporting mods, and that would basically be the extent of my major modifications. It is doubtful that my car will ever see 300whp (unless I win the lottery), so do you think it would be a noticable difference with the 270-280whp that I might one day have? I am looking for opinions here, I would sacrifice 3-5hp for the sound I like.

I was told that Megan racing is actually a cheap eGay knock off of Mugen racing.

Also, the write up about intake and exhaust resonating goes into deeper details on exhaust systems and how they play a role in with everything.
If you want my opinion, there is no need to go larger than 2.5"
