Family Member Had Bad Luck Last Year

Hi all, let me give you a brief description of what happed, last year a family member purchased a new Cobalt LS, she put about 1700 miles on it. About three months after she purchased it she stuck up for a friend that had a bad relation ship going and the bad seed got a bunch of people and flipped the Cobalt over one night!!! After flipping the car on a 35deg hill they decided that wasn't enough so they took a pick ax and punched a hole right through the oil pan. After carefully putting the car back onto its wheels we discovered the engine was locked up.

We had a shop take a look at it, he said the oil pan was part of the engine transmission assembly, so he could not just drop the pan. We got a quote for $4500 for a jasper engine installed, and $6000 for the body work with all new windows. Now the car that sill has a rather large lean against it is quickly costing more than its worth. My father has a lot of experience with engine swaps and body work, but neither him or I have done any work on a FWD car before but we plan to replace the engine and do the body work ourselves. The car is currently in my basement so we have plenty of room to do the work in.

As luck would have it, she moved a few weeks after buying the car and forgot to change the address for the insurance payments, so the car became uninsured about a week before it was flipped over. Please do not judge my family or me for that, none of us would ever drive deliberately without insurance.

Thank you for your time.

I have a few pics, I do not currently have a pic of the hole in the engine but I will get one up there.

Man that sucks and I would do what ever I had to get to get the people that did that. As far as doing the work youself I would take notes, pics, anything that might help make it go smoother. Bag up and mark all the hardware and anything you take off.

Wow man, really sorry to hear that.

I can't stand little ****** like that who have no respect for other peoples property... makes me doubt mankind even more.

Sorry about the insurance situation, hope everything works out for the best!

That would, if it went through insurance, be a total loss.

Your best bet may be to try and nab what you need out of a junkyard. I know that's probably not the ideal route, being as the car is basically brand new, but that's the only way I can see you saving any costs on it.

Why arent you suing for damages rendered? You dont even need insurance. Small claims court. Get your max $5000 and walk away. Done.

lol, yea my father and I built the house, we decided since we were limited on road frontage that we would incorporate a garage in the basement. Its nice to have a indoor work place.

We looked into that, unfortunately since there were no witnesses, no verbal threats, and not enough evidence to support that the perps were there that night, we couldn't do anything like that. It sure is a bummer.

Damn, my condolances. I hope you castrate the sorry POS who did this. I got an oem rear bumper but with shipping and the fact that you probably only need the front I suggest a body kit . Just look at it as an excuse to upgrade and mod.

I know what I'd do if someone did that to my car........unfortunately it can't be described on a public website.

Wait, I am confused.
I will start off by saying that this really sucks, and I hate to hear about anyone having to do this.
But with all due respect, didnt she realize she wasnt paying for insurance?
I mean, seems to me she would have called them the first time she didnt get a bill.

Maybe i am missing something.

Either way, good luck with the re-build.
Its going to take a lot of work! You should definately take lots of pictures, then post a "How to" when all is said and done!

My father did a little CSI, he used some kind of powder dust that showed up the prints, then he took pictures of fingerprints but the police wouldn't take it. I know it sounds like I'm not telling the truth but I have no reason to lie.

Yea, a body kit and hood would do that car well.

Some Good News

I talked to my father today and he said that one of the ars holes that flipped the car over, ran from the police a few weeks ago and got caught. He was driving a Honda Civic (go figure) doing in-excess of 120mph up a two lane road, he got away from the police cruiser and did a big circle returning to his home, the officer had the tag number though, and found where he lived, waited for back up and then busted them.

Well thats one down, lol.

Probably would have to have been done by the cops themselves, otherwise wouldn't probably hold up in court.

Insurance doesn't cover it? Drop that **** insurance, thats WHY you pay to have insurance. If they don't cover that kind of **** what are they taking money for?

Ok reread OP, insurance should not work like that, because change of address it shouldn't drop. In utah insurances can only do that if you 1. don't pay, 2. hit a car worth more then 70+ when your car is 33-. So I would go after the kids AND that **** hole insurance for being some fuckign waste of money and time.

What it really sounds like is they don't wanna shell out the money.
