That right there says to me something was SERIOUSLY wrong with the Cobalt (with the exception of the Charger). It should feel better than the GTI and marginally better than the Eclipse. The GTI and SS are almost identical in weight, the GTI weighs 60 lbs more (which for a car is damn close), but the SS puts down 20+ more horses. The only difference is the GTI reaches peak torque WAY sooner than the SS. The Eclipse has more horses, but it's 600 lbs heavier and like someone else said, when you drive it you can feel those extra pounds.

The Tiburon should not have even been close to the SS. It's about 100 lbs heavier, 30+ hp less than the SS and also less torque.

I don't know what was up with the SS you drove, but I would take one out with the LSD and see what it feels like. That's the only thing I can think of that MIGHt make a difference.

That seemed fishy to me too.

I don't think the LSD created THAT much more drivetrain loss though. There had to be something mechanically wrong with the car.

WOW just blown away by the opinon. Ive raced all except the Charger and won all nicely. The closest race was the GTI with some PCM chip or reprogram. Other than that :
06 Eclipse GT v6 6spd was slow off the line
06 Tibby v6 6spd Slowest 6cyl
04/05 VW GTI 1.8T with PCM Chip was at my rear bumper the whole time
06 Civic EX not even a race
03/04 SER Spec V CAI, Cat Back(NISMO I think) a little faster than the Tibby
All people are friends I work with at my Hyundai\Mitsubishi dealership

All were 06's 2 of which had the Recaro/lsd package. The one we test drove was an 06, blue with Recaro/lsd pack on it. I was very excited to say the least. Well after the test drive I was very, very disapointed. The car had NO power whatsoever. I even had to pop the hood to re-assure myself that it had a SC on it! Even the wife who drove it noticed it's complete lack of power. Is there some kind of "safe mode" that the dealer puts it in for test drives? I was just amazed at how poorly it ran. I have read all the reviews, watched personal video clips and dyno charts.... All I can say is I am speechless.
I also have a 05 srt 4 and I will be honest with you, they are no comparisson what so ever. I am not trying to be a troll, or start any trouble, I am however very disappointed in the car. I waited months to even look at one in person, and months after that to drive one. I was left totally unsatisfied. Is it possible that this is a "bad" one from the factory or what?

I drive a 5.7L, 320hp, 6 speed beast and to me the s/c’ed SS is by no means slow. I have a hard time believing you are giving an honest review or opinion with those comments.

souds wierd to me too. I have been car shopping recently also. I drove a maunal gti and the 2.4 non sc'd cobalt ss. The automatic cobalt with 170 horsepower felt faster to me than the 180 hp gti so im sure the ss/sc should definately feel alot quicker than the gti.

I can honestly say that my opinion/review is totally un-biased and without any other meaning. The whole reason I test drove the car was to solidify my wanting to buy it. I will talk to the wife tommorow and go try to test drive a different one without LSD, just to be sure. Honestly I hope it runs alot better, as I like the car and wouldn't mind having one. I did not have real high hopes or unrealistic expectations. I expected it to be comparable to my srt, not as fast, but pretty damn close. That was not the impression I was left with. I have never dyoned nor ran my srt at the track, so maybe I just got a "factory freak" that is clouding my judgment? Who knows.

Hopefully I will test drive a different one tommorow and can report back better things. Then we can spend tommorow night trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with the one I drove today!

I've raced plenty of srt4s and kept even with them...with a few getting a car length or so on me. But IMO the only thing srt4s have on an SS is a tad bit more speed, and maybe a little bit of a price difference..Most people I talked to said they also bought their srt4 just because it already has an aftermarket..not to mention how many srt4 owner complain about how their car runs most of the time

The Eclipse was an awesome car. Very impressive for a NA v6. The price is a little more than I would like to spend though.

Before you make your decision i would test drive an SS without LSD, im beginning to think that is what the problem is.... notice how most ss's on here are running mid 14's but some running 15.2's,3's, im betting those have the lsd.
