Try just releasing the clutch as slowly as possible without any gas. This will help you learn where the friction point is

1st is tough, i can tell you that shifting around 3000rpm's helps to engage the clutch better. try higher rpm shifting

As I said mine does this also. What year, model do you have?Any mods?Any codes?I'm on gm stage 2 stock airbox.Had the rev limiter raised to 7200 and I think torque limiter in first gear removed by Area47.Maybe we could bump this into problems or tuning.

You guys are getting wayyyyy too caught up on this. First gear sucks and it's jerky. Nothing you can do about it.

Bucking Bronco is nail on the head. I have the same issue as OP in my 2010 LNF. It doesn't feel like a computer/performance issue, it seems like mechanical issue. It's not driver mod either because my LS has never done that.

Oh yeah and first to second shift is more bucking around lol

THIS. My first gear gives a "hiccup" or a buck then i get going fine. then i shift into second more bucking... I took my car in to my local. i have a leak in my struts and need new springs in the back... i dont beleive this is what is wrong as they did a full car inspections.

They DO NOT do electrical stuff

yup my car feels like the mechanical bull at a bar.

I've just come to terms with it and after 3 years with the car I'm used to wheel hop/Bucking and having an overall impossibly notchy piece of **** transmission.

It's the fly by wire throttle control, you can thank gm for that. You just got to learn how to drive it. And also our first gear has a small part of it. Our cars are a pain in the ass to drive compared to other manual trans vehicles.

whos a 1st gear master? nobody on this forum, everyone here has the same shitty transmission and TB

I just give it some gas when launching, keeps the car from bucking a bit, you just feel some more acceleration/wheel spin.

This HAS to be the WORST manual I've ever driven.. a HAIR too much gas and the tires spin like crazy.. just a TAD too little and it stalls or bucks.

and again, I've driven a few manuals... 200 7Si Civic, 2005 Mazda 3, Mazda Protege, Subaru Imprezza, Ford Focus, New Camaro SS, Camaro LT, Buick Regal GS(drive these 3 all the time off the line at the factory), 2001 Z28, 1990Cavalier Z24, 2013 Cadillac ATS, 2010 BMW 3series... the list goes on.. but bottom line is this has to be the notchiest most temperamental piece of **** gear box I've ever dealt with

^^This. 1st gear is just incredibly touchy on these cars.

This as well, but I think bucking bronco might be a little bit of an exaggeration

Ive had my car over 2 years and Im pretty good at driving around in 1st gear and shifting into 2nd but I still get a small jerk every once in awhile if I dont do everything perfectly.

I've never had a problem starting or driving through parking lots in 1st gear.

Does it do it all the time or only when its still cold?

Ive read that before at least a couple times on here, so I usually shift between 3-3.5k..It does seem to help make smoother shifts.

Does anyone know if the same concept applies on downshifts?

Well I got my ss in December so I have only driven it in the cold. But I've had. For around 3 months and it still does this. The thing I'm saying is I've never had this happen so I wanted some advice

Update!!!
I got my car back with new shocks and struts. My fronts were leaking and my whole set up was shot. I drove it to my college today and my first gear buck and hiccup were gone! I wasn't driving any differently or not doing anything special? Anyone have old shocks or struts and have this problem?
