friend drove car= stench of clutch and me feeling like ****

i let my friend drive my car and get it up high in first and when he put it in second he was flooring it but released the clutch mad slow causing it to slide and burn. It stunk badly and now i feel like **** because of it cus our clutches arent the most heavy duty and i dont want that **** to die early. Some other kid did it last week also to my car. Im done letting people drive my car even if they drive manual.

Doesn't beat the two times I had NYPD officers drive my car...the first one was the mock high speed chase...NOT FUN. But he knew how to drive so...

Yeah...here's the thing...the cobalt/rl is not a good vehicle to have someone learn to drive stick (ie a girlfriend, brother, brother from a different mother) in because of the wheel hop; rent something from budget and destroy it then return it. 30 bucks a day beats the 800 or 900 bucks it's going to cost to replace your clutch.

And finally...the stock clutch isn't that horrible...some abuse isn't going to kill it in the short term.

I never ever let someone else drive my car and I will live by that till the day I die. I told my 19 year old brother the same thing with his car and he let our soon to be 17 year old step brother take his car out of town. The kid came back with a story of how the hell his whole passenger side was tore up. The kid says the passenger rear tire blew and sent him into a guard rail. My prognosis was the damn kid was to busy texting on his phone, left the road, tried to correct without slowing down and sideswiped the guard rail causeing the tire to blow!

Yeah the kid i let drive it tonight drives a stick rsx so i figured he wouldnt be completely retarded. After smelling my clutch like that though i change my mind. This wont happen again. No more people driving my car unless they seem qualified enough. No more kids my age.

read up on the forums... i've come to the conclusion that 60% of people that drive a manual have no idea what they're doing... even though though they'll try to convince you that they do.

I when I let a few select people drive mine a few times

I tell em to not shift under 3K and then to nail it after 3K. They usually **** themselves
and bring it back to me and say something to the effect of "Take this scary-ass car away from me!"

I think other manual transmission owners try to drive every car the same way.......and you just can't do that. Clutch feel/engagement is always different. What I do when I drive another manual car, is drive it easy for the first few kilometers getting used to different clutch engagement.

Only let my mom drive my cobalt. Let one friend drive once, not far though. He did grind out the gears but treated my baby like crap. He is always complaing "why do you go so slow", or "why do you only shift a 3,000 RPM's". Then he will say "I used to take my civic to 5,500 RPM's all the time before I shift" and "take corners a 40 mph". He claims he a better driver than me. Friend has totaled 3 car in the past 2 yrs. Funney thing, his civic was so ragged out, he could never figure out why my ZX2 would pull 4-5 cars in a heart beat. Stock ZX2 vs. his civic I/H/E

Too true.
I've let a few people drive my car. My dad and brother. Both did good, brother didn't know how to get it into reverse, lol.
Both best friends, and their girlfriends (who all drove stick before) drove it, and all were glad to see me get back behind the wheel. Not that they screwed anything, but that they didn't want too, and couldn't drive the car very well!

Nobody but my father and my GM Tech buddy drives my cars. I don't care how good of a friend they are. I've had 3 vehicles blown up by my friends. I learned my lesson, thats why none of them have nice vehicles...

I cringe every time my wife asks to drive the car to work about 45 mins away. She last asked to take it wth her friend going out drinking and bar hopping... My reply...." ahhhhhhhhhh.....NO.

I let my Dad drive my 90 5.0 Stang......he came back saying it was a pretty fast car....kept up with my Uncle's 1978 Corvette... First time I let my Dad drive it to Northern WI on a vacation, my brother and me rode in back...I told him to watch his speed, it was so dang easy to speed in that car.... 15 minutes out, he was pulled over in the next town... my bro and I were laughing so hard in the back seat we were crying......He only got a warning tho. That car was pretty decent to teach people how to drive a stick.....taught all my old girfriends on that car ....gave 'em a lesson or two...ha ha!!

One time when I was a teenager I let my friend drive my truck to take a girl home who he was trying to hook up with. He was gone for hours and when he got back the clutch was all screwed up. I said I will never let anybody drive my vehicles again and to this day I never have. WIth the exception of my mom, dad or my daughter when she turns 16. I'm the captain of this ship!

i learned to drive stick in mine. this is not a good car to learn in. although it does make me proud to know that if someone does drive it, they're shocked and impressed with this clutch.
