G85 Package Worth It?

for everyone who owns the recaro racing seats and the limited slip differential quick questions

1. I have sat in an SS that had the racing seats but i was not too sure if they would be comfortable for any trip more than an hour. it seemed like i would be begging to get out of the seat after sitting in after an hour but i was not all that sure so i wanted to ask for those who own them are they comfortable for long trips cuz i make a bunch of em and i couldnt put up with seats that hurt after awhile

2. Does the LSD make for any differences in stock times that anyone can tell or is it just something really nice to have when owning one or is it more of a waste of money, i suppose the last part is totally up to your option but i would wanna hear it before i decide if im going to get it or not here in the next couple of months

Thanks
Matt

The G85 package is worth it. I think the LSD is a benefit of it and I mainly got it for the seats. Some would say the opposite thing, they got the LSD and the seats were a benefit.
I drove 584 miles miles on thursday last week and I felt great. It was roughly 10 hours of driving. I put 1400+ miles since last thursday and I was not sore. My brother rode with me from Atlanta to Warner Robins, 100 miles and 2 hours and he loved the seats.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

The seats grow on you. The will feel different then the seat's your used to but eventually they will grow second nature. I have the recaro's and have never felt uncomfortable and I am a pretty big guy.

I've heard rumors that the LSD takes up HP, so GM gave a little of a HP boost for the cars with the LSD ( I dont know this to be fact) I know when I dynoed my car compared to a 05 without the LSD I was 10-20 HP more with an exaust vs the other car that had an intake.

Its definately worth it if you ever want one. paying 1800 for the G85 now saves you about 4000 in getting the recaro's and LSD installed separately.

if a LSD cobalt SS raced a Cobalt SS w/o LSD then the LSD would easily win

Um having any info to justify that?

I dont have LSD, and i seem to be doing pretty good without.

I will be installing a LSD once i get into the mid 12s.... but if you dont plan on modding the crap out of your car, you really dont need LSD.

I agree, where are you getting your facts? The only time you will see the advantage of having an LSD is when you are pulling out of a corner. Having driven a friends civic with an LSD, it is so worth the money.

Strait line performance wont so much be increased however as I mentioned and you may have seen many times over, most SS/SC with the G85 package seem to pull higher Dyno #'s then others, and I think this is what he may have been mentioning. My brother has a RL without the LSD and his launches in his car suck terribly, where as I think mine are 100% better and I think the LSD may help with that a little bit as well. We both have the same all season tires, and we both dyno similar #'s, so I dont see where else the difference would come from. I even added an intake since then and my launches are still a beautiful thing.

LSD Helps launch the vehicle from a stop as well. So I agree a car with it would have a slight edge

I think the G85 package is worth it. I ordered my car with it and never looked back. "I have no regrets at all" (as William Hung would say).

in the end the driver will make the difference in a straight line race between two of the same cars with the only variation being a LSD. this can be seen by doing about 5 minutes of research on this site comparing track times of members cars.

Exclamation

I don't own a Cobalt, yet, but i hope too, and i'm making sure i get the Recaro & LSD package. I've driven my dads car a whole lot (1986 Chev Caprice Classic 5.0L V8 [carb]) and it doesn't have the LSD. When i purchased my car (1991 Chev Caprice Classic 5.0L V8 [efi]) i wasn't going to buy one that didn't have a LSD. There is a little difference in straight line racing as he squeals one tire and i squeal them both, i'm off a little sooner. Next to this, the only difference is low-traction situations or towing that i love my LSD (although it is a "challenge" while on a banked grade on ice, not one i can't handle though )
I will say, these are both RWD cars, and i'm stating this for very similar 2000 Kg RWD cars rated for the same factory HP. I imagine there is some difference in FWD cars, but I am unfamialiar with LSD performance in FWD cars as yet. Anybody else can clear the air for that, but to sum it up, I LOVE MY LSD in my car!!

(And i can't wait to get my Cobalt!! )

so yall would definitely recommend the package then which i thought would be quite surprising actually but alright then in a couple of months i guess ill be planning on buying one with the package then. and i know this might be a stupid question but i need did look and i know like nothing about racing seats cuz i dont own them but the back of the seat does recline right cuz i do do alot of sleepin in my GT grand am now and i would need that to take a nap every now and then. cuz you know how rough life can be in florida when its usually hot.

Thanks for yalls help
Matt

now if i could decide on a dang color to go with it, the two dealers here got one in black with black inserts and no G85 package and the one my dad works at has a red one (same color as the GT) with the G85 package and red inserts....

If it has red inserts, it does not have G85. Get one with G85. $1,700 is well worth it!

I dont have it and im happy without it. Complete waste of money from my point of view. Its like if they asked me if i wanted abs for a thousand dollars extra? What do u think i would say to them? Same thing for an LSD. Maybe if it was cheap but its not 1700 ?
Um no. I paid 24 500 for my car. Didint want to pay an extra 2200 for LSD and nicer seats is what im trying to get at. But I mean if you have had good experiences with LSD then buy it. Id love to see a stock S/C with LSD beat me of the line. Let me know im in Ottawa.

personally i dont care about havign "recaro" seats and from what ive heard lsd doesnt make a huge difference so i would get the one without the LSD and put that 2000 dollars into upgrades or something.

thats cool, i have an 06 with LSD and i found my exact car on the streets except it was an 05, same color too (yellow) but without the LSD, i had a bit on him from the get go, i think the driver helps out more than anything, and LSD will help out when mroe power is added plus the recaros in my opinion are much better then the stock seats but hey to each there own, peace!

lsd makes a big difference, 2 wheels spin when one breaks traction.

Amen to that brother. I can launch this car like a mother f'ker now. I get no issues with wheel hop (took a fair bit of practice), I just need to be really smooth but hard with the throttle (Hard to explain). Itys the driver in this one. Now, a tight road race course is where the difference is supposed to be seen, but since I am not road racing I really didnt need it. I origianlly had a g85 on order but since my build time was unknown I went for the sure thing and enevr looked back.

Thats kool. From what people say it sure does sound good. But I mean I can launch perfectly now without loss of traction nor do i get that nasty 2nd gear wheel hop. I can't see anything that would help me launch quicker. I allways thought those 18 inch rims were the cause of that. As for the seats maybe it is worth it. All up to the buyer.
