Gas Gauge Moves Too Fast

Is it normal that my gas gauge moves really fast.. From the day i fill up to the next day it will move from the full marker to the next mark with only 15-20 miles driven.. Not driven hard though.. The gas gauge moves two markers from the full marker within the first 30 miles driven.. whats up with that. The it kind of evens out and stays steady after that.. My Z06 doesn't even do that and i drive the **** out of it. Is that normal.. does everyones gas gauge fo that.. thanx

I find that sometimes my gas guage says full for the first 60-70 kms after that it goes down normal, but other times its i starts coming down right away but at about 5/8 of the tank it kinda just sits there for a while. What ever it does it evens itself out.

My Gas Gauge does the same thing , Really fast at first then slows down from 3/4 to empty .
I would say Normal . My 92 Camaro stayed on full for the first 100 then dropped real fast .

I think it's due to the Shape of the fuel Tanks, in Relation to the float .
Just my .02 .

There's a TSB for the fuel gauge in the Cobalts (2 actually) #050849002 - FUEL GAUGE ACCURACY AND OR FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATION FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT GO TO FULL and #10017206 (<--sounds like this is the right one) INACCURATE AND/OR ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE OPERATION.

Technical Service Bulletin, means it's a known problem and there is a fix for it.

Reset the mpg in the info center and see what kinda mileage you are getting, how much the gauge moves doesn't tell you anything.

I usually have that problem when I have low gas. It would be close or near empty. Then I would turn off the car, then turn it back on and the DIC would actally say how much gas I should have left. Instead of low Fuel.

Thats normal, the gas slooshes around and trips the low fuel light when it is not really THAT low but the light will not go off once it has come on until the car is shut off.

My gauge will go to pull, and there there for a while. Then it goes down normally to 1/4 tank. The last 1/4 tank goes quick as hell for some reason.. Dunno.

all i know is our cars use alot of gas. That bullshit estimate of 23 mpg city is crazy, i MIGHT get that highway. The only driving i do around her is city and i would say i only drive "spirited" a couple times a week. The best mpg i have gotten since i had my car was 18 but now i am getting 16.5 according to the DIC.

Holy , dude!!!!!! I've gotten 32 miles to the gallon in my SS/SC!!!!!! I definitely drive "spirited" too. That's cruising at 80. City I usually average at LEAST 26mpg.

My gas gauge is funky like others, but it jumps around, sometimes it'll be at 1/4 tank then go up to 1/2 tank then all of a sudden it's empty, but I drive by the odometer anyway.

My brother got an 06 SOM Cobalt SS 2.4 yesterday. Not that I influenced him at all....nope...none at all. Anyway, his car only went 140mi and used 3/4 of a tank. He's getting it checked out tomorrow. Funny thing is, he wasn't driving it any harder than I drive my SS/SC and I only used 3/8 of a tank for teh same mileage.....???

32 is the highest I've gotten. I've gotten 30 quite a few times. I'd say I average 28-29 highway. I used to get crappy mileage when first learning the stick because I'd rev way too high, now I shift around 2500. I rarely downshift unless I absolutely have to.
