gasket sealer

Can I use permatex gasket sealer on the header gasket>? Can it withstand the heat ?

It should say what the heat range is. On their site they had a few sealers that were recommended for exhaust manifold gaskets.

most gasket sealers only handle about 600*f max.
and only handle that much if its very intermittent.

exhaust gasses in a header at cruising speed are often around 1200*
and reach 1500 during hard driving.

how much of that is transferred to the metal i dont know, but im almost certain it would be to hot for that stuff.

why do you need sealer?
just put a new gasket in there and tighten it down.

It would be best to get a new one, they aren't that expensive. I've heard other guys say they haven't had problems will re-using the old ones. It wouldn't be worth the risk of frustration to me though. lol

I mean I just got a new one like 9 months ago so I think I will just use that, if i run into problems ill just get a new one.

I've always said that once a gasket has been torqued down, it's toast......if you have to take it apart again, just spend the $10 on a new gasket.
