General Spark Plug Question

Hey guys,

So, a few weeks ago, I replaced my plugs again. I do them every few years. I replace them with new Delco Iridums. The last time I did it, I didn't check the plug gap because it said to not re-gap right on the box. Nor did I this time. It ran fine last time I swapped them, however I'm currently experiencing a cylinder miss issue, and I want to see if it's possibly something as easy as the plug. What should the Delco Iridums be gapped at? I'm a 2.4. Are the Iridums even able to be adjusted? I know that I tried to check one of my old ones and it actually snapped..

Thanks!

It depends on the electrode tip. Some rapidfire delco plugs can't be gapped because its a fine tip. And they bend real easily. But most of them should be gappable. And being ac delco plugs, most should be damn near close to being pre gapped. But as far as what 2.4 should be, couldn't tell you. Any autoparts store should be able to tell you if you call up.

According to my GM Service Manual on page 6-1859:
It says for the 2.4 L Engine
Spark Plug Gap 0.042 inches

So after checking my plugs, the OEM Delco Iridiums I bought from the parts store say do not gap. However they are set to .032. The OEM rating is .042! But if you try to gap them, the little stud breaks. Any suggestions?

You could try to anneal the plug so that when you bend the electrode it doesn't break.
(Heat up the electrode to read hot, quinch in water, then bend) That works on copper
but difrent metals react diffrently. So be careful, and consult some one who knows more about metal working.

You could cehck with the mfr of the plug to see if they have any suggestions.
