Getting my first car.
Hello to all. I am 16 years old, but don't think I'm a spoiled little bitch. I got my lisence about 6 months ago and agree that I am not a expert driver. My dad works for General Motors so we all drive Chevys. Now the time has come to get my first car. I have been saving up for a few years and have a few thousand to pitch into the car. My parents will pay the rest. Well I love the look of the SS and would really like one. Not the supercharged or even a 5-speed. Just an auto. So I make a proposal to my parents about getting a used SS. They dissagree with me and want to get a new LT for the same price (If not more) because of the warrenty. My dad is very stuborn and I really would like help in trying to convince him to let me get the SS instead. We all know it's a better looking car. I am in no way or fashion trying to be picky because I do know this is my first car, but for the same price I would rather have the SS. So what do you think css.net? Thank you for taking time and reading.

don't take this the wrong way, but i think that when you buy your own car you can get whatever you want. untill that point, be happy that you have parents that will help. many people are not that lucky.

Thank you guys for the comments.
Yes I have been looking for one with low miles.
They make a 2008 2.4 SS? I only thought the SS came in the 5-speed.

You can get a new or used 08 "Sport". Is IDENTICAL to the earlier SS model, (except the little easily removable Sport badge on the trunk lid!!) Then you get the new car and you both get the new car GM employee discount!!.. full warranty, standard XM and Onstar AND side curtain airbags, nice SS wheels, the whole deal!!! (tell Dad the ONSTAR and upraded airbags will keep you safer!!) AND your choice of the Auto OR 5-speed trans!!!! AND.... the larger 2.4 in standard, so he can't "order down" a 2.2!! Just add leather interior and a sunroof if you want!! Sweet ride!!! It's a "win-win" situation!!
What do you think????

i agree...since ur dad works for GM, get a 2.2 or 2.4 new...honestly..if u can..milk him for a 2.4..but if not..get a 2.2.
just be happy with w/e they give you..and take w/e they give u..cuz a free car=more money to mods..car payments really hinder modding..trust me i am 17 and do 600 bucks a month in bills...

Be lucky your parents are offering to help you get a car. I have had to buy each and every one of my cars by myself with no help from the parents other then their signature. Since your a new driver, get a 2.2. Upgrade later. I started out with a little 80's honda for $400 and gradually upgraded to my $11k little 2.2....

^^x2, my first 2 cars were family-beaters then my third was bought by my mom as a early grad gift since my 2nd car blew up (bought a pos ZX2), and after years of saving (and I mean years) and about another year of convincing I bought my ss/sc and so far, it's been the best 6 months ever. Bottom line, don't **** off the 'rents if they're offering to help you buy a car, be willing to budge a little.

The 2.2 stock will give a stock 2.4 a run for its money too. The stock Tune on the 2.4 is very half assed and TC can not be turned off on the 07 ss 2.4 which is probably the lamest thing about the car. The 2.2 Gets way better Econ than the 2.4. It took a CAI and a ECM/TCM tune to bring my 2.4 to what i concider a car worth driving.

I don't know insurance prices of a 2.4 SS, but at 16 I'm sure they'll try to rape you - even under your parents' policy - because it is an "SS" model.
My suggestion, go with what your parents say - save your money and blow it on something like school. That was my route. I bought my first car for 5000$ for it to only blow up after 2 years. Took a hand me down sunfire from my dad for another 2 years while i paid my own way through college (550$/credit hour HURTS over 4 years!)

If your dad works for GM you can probably get the '08 Sport for pretty cheap too.........plus it doesn't say "SS" so he might not immediately reject the idea. Might be cheaper insurance for a "Sport" over an "SS" too......who knows.

I appreciate all the comments. Thanks guys! And yes I am very grateful that my parents are helping me out on my first car. I know come arn't as lucky.
Well looks like I won't be getting an SS or Sport. Oh well. At least I'll have a car. In a few years when I get older hopefully I will be able to get a 2010 Cobalt SS or something. Damn, that sounds good! I can't wait.

not to thread jack or anything, but cobalyguy88, why was ur lt 17 grand? i got my 06 ls in feb of 06 and it was 11.5 with only 4 miles on it, and those 4 miles were from the 2 test drives i took in it. i cant imagine the differences between and ls and an lt to equal out to 6 grand more.
