GM firm that Solstice will not get a V-6
Whats the weight on the Solstice? It must be projected to be fairly light, it's a tiny car.
The Solstice is a front-engine RWD car. So since the four-cylinder in it should be mounted longitudinally, why should they have to stretch the platform to hold a V6? Maybe widen the engine cradle and tub the engine bay, but I wouldn't think they'd have to lenghthen the car or anything? I don't know, what do you guys think?
"Solstice isn't meant for a 6-cylinder," Queen says, noting that the small, rear-wheel-drive Kappa platform would have to be stretched to hold a 6. That means added cost besides that for the larger engine in a vehicle targeted to start at about $20,000.
well, from what motor trend says and I've read online, close to the 3000lb mark!
and it isn't as small as it looks - MT said it was merely inches smaller than the c5 vette!
as for the engine fitment issue, you are dead on - a I-4 engine will usually be longer and higher than a v6, with the 6 being wider; in a rwd vehicle, the length won't limit it, only width, which shouldn't be an issue anyway.
think of all the people who hauled the small straight 6's out of 240 and 280Z's and dropped in small blocks....

3000 pounds!! 8O
I didn't think it was going to be that big. I remember reading that article in MT where they said it wouldn't be much smaller then the 'vette, but I thought that it was probably BS. I guess it is much bigger then the Miata then, although I can't see why it should be. It will still be a great handling car though.
As for power, if they don't offer the 2.0L S/C as an option, it would be great to see the 240hp 2.2 S/C they displayed in the show car.
