That's kind of the point of the strike. To impact the one thing that speaks the most: people's financial situation. Zero production pretty much equates to zero profit. The side impacts also lead to pressure being placed on both parties to come to a compromise. If one side is being entirely unreasonable, then they'll bear the weight of the pressure. If both sides are being foolish, both will feel the pressure.

This is why most unions won't cross another union's picket line, as was the case with Teamsters. They ship GM products. Thus, even with a back stock of cars, if said cars can't make it to market, there's no income.

It's a chess game played with economics. And, as they say, money talks...
