Good deal?
I have a 2006 Cobalt LT 2dr with 46k miles. I wanted a SS/SC (SS/TC is out of my price range) and I found this car http://http://hartford.craigslist.org/ctd/2492645217.html and wanted to know how much cash I should give them if I was gonna trade my car for theirs. Also what are the two 3-circle bars on the back of the car?
Thanks

yea i dont like the holes in the back bumper but thats meant for drag racing. i would offer them 8k max since the car has obiously been abused some how. but for the miles that it has i think is the reason why i say it could be a nice deal. i think its also sittting on lowering springs

The circles do nothing good. Someone mistakenly believes that the back bumper traps so much air and creates so much drag that they need to vent it. All the circles really do are depreciate the car.
As far as what to give the guy in addition to yours? 5 bucks. Now, if you tell us something beyond it is a white 2 door Cobalt we might be able to work with you. How about post some picks or something? Any mods? What shape are the tires? Brakes? Interior nice? Ever been hit or damaged?

My Car:
46,095 miles
No dents, dings, scratches, tranny problems, engine problems, any other problems
only mod is 25% tint all the way around (well i put a new H/U in but i would put the stock 1 back in for the dealership)
tires still have 65%-70% tread
brake pads in great shape
Interior is great (front seats are a little dirty but I would be able to clean those in an 1hr with just some regular car seat cleaner).
never been hit, never been damaged
I didn't think I would need pics becuz its just a stock 2006 2dr LT

Great........ so, ok. I'll guess.....
Assuming that you live in or near Hartford, the car is in "good" condition, and has allow wheels then KBB values your car on a trade in at $6975.00. You can check kbb.com and get the trade in value yourself if my wild ass guess about your car or location was wrong.
The dealer wants 10k for the SS. Use kbb to get a better idea what it is worth. Then deduct 2k for the chopped up rear bumper and whatever abuse the car has probably seen. The difference between your trade in value and what that car is really worth is what you'll want to pay. If the dealer takes it then good, if not don't even make a second offer. The car is pretty suspect.

But there are a few things you can take advantage of.
1. They have had that car FOREVER. I seen it months ago when I was looking at SS's (I remember because of the holes in the rear bumper)
2. The holes in the rear bumper. Tell them it's going to cost you at least $1,000 to get that fixed because it looks goofy as hell.
3. You have a car that is easier to sell than a SS. Yes, SS's are faster and overall a better car but GM sold a ton more LS's and LT's then they did the SS remember?
So here is what you do. Try to get as close to full NADA book value as you can. Probably $7,500-8,000 on a LT if its CLEAN. If they are firm on low balling you then start to negotiate on the sticker price of the car.
There are two ways to get a good deal. Make them give you more for your trade. Or make them come down from sticker. If they don't move at all for you then give them your name and number and tell them to call you when they feel like moving a car with holes cut in the bumper.
Thats my car buying tip for the day Also keep in mind that you only pay sales tax on the difference when you trade. Thats always a plus.
