Is this a good deal?

Found a 2006 Cobalt automatic sedan on Craigslist for $500, but says needs new airbag and car won't start. Wondering if this would be a good investment. Want to do some Spartan Races out of state this year, and the beater with no heater I've been driving just won't make it. Do you think this would be a good investment? Heard of these having all kinds of ignition cylinder, BCM and other module problems, so hoping it won't be a lemon.

Its a gamble honestly.
Do you have a JY near you that will sell air bags (a lot wont)? New airbags would be more than the cost of the car.

Most likely wont start cause it has fuel shutoff once the airbag deploys. Ive never replaced airbags on a cobalt but ive done many other cars and thats most likely the case or it could be like you stated. For 500 id buy it...you could turn around and sell it after you fix it it.

You could always part it out.

Agreed, I figure the interior and body panels, suspension, wheels/tires, engine parts, etc is worth way more than the purchase price of the car if worse comes to worse.

For $500 you could scrap it and make it back.

i wouldnt hesitate.

first this i would do though since its not running it check that oil. see what she looks like. take a look around key suspension componets, drivetrain, but even if 75% of it was shot, i would still buy it
