got a quick question about brakes

its about time for me to get new brake pads and my friend is telling me i need to get new roters also is this true

depends on how worn your brakes are...usually on a new car like a cobalt, the pads would only need to be replaced under normal wear and tear but if your really hard on them they could be warped

How many miles?
I'm sure you know already, but if the rotors are warped you will feel a surging when you hit the brakes.
You don't need to replace them unless they are warped or deeply grooved. Even then you may be able to get them turned to save some money.

I'd check into Hawk pads. They are supposed to stop better and wear the rotors less than stock pads.
And if you need to replace the rotors, CED has all 4 drilled/slotted, for something like $300. Last time I checked the stock rotors were more than that.
