Has anyone tried a grounding kit yet?

Hey guys, just curious if anyones tried one of those aftermarket grounding kits for the balts.

good question, i'm kinda out of options when it comes to modifications while staying within warranty. I wonder if this would be a worthwhile option

if i recall correctly, JapEatr was playing around with one of these. not sure if he ever did it or if it worked.

I've been eyeing the universal ones on e-bay for quite some time... in fact I made a post asking the same question a while ago... never got any definate answers from anyone.

How the heck do you install a grounding wire kit? If someone will tell me how I'll give it a try... looks pretty simple... but electronics aren't exactly my thing.

You connect the wire or wires depending on the kit to the negative battery terminal then run the wires to a good ground on a car.

It sucks for the cobalts that have a rear battery because theres not a lot to ground too though.

sweet, that's not hard at all i changed out a rounds limiter switch on a 20mm vulcan cannon last night (GE M61A1), --if I can do that, I can hook up a freakin ground. :P

post i started a long time ago.

DIY instructions on key points for grounding. actually a great idea, ill be throwing mine together in the next 2-3 weeks with a nice grounding plate and all.

So... I would need to run 5 cables from the negative in the trunk?

screw that specially if they are all 4 gauge.

not necessarily. if you read the write up on the xA he went from:

15" for the Body (A) to Head (B)
22" for Head (B) to Coil Pack (C)
27" for Coil Pack (C) to Battery Negative (D)
17" for Battery Negative (D) to Body (E)

now im not positive of the correct grounding points for our cobalt but i will look into it.

some say just looking over your engine and replacing any original ground wire with a 4 gauge will show a difference

Could we not just take a short wire from the - battery terminal and bolt it into the frame?

that is one part of the installation yes. just grounding the battery to the frame with a better wire probably wont do much though

Is this kind of like those "Turbonator" thingies?

Here put these aluminum fins in your intake and it will help throttle response, fuel economy, and your automatic tranny shift smoother!

How would these cables give me better torque?

I really need to beef up the grounds on my honda, it has intermittent ignition problems.

Speaking of Cobalts though, I threw a 0/1 Guage wire from the one side of the engine mount to the other side, so the cable is about 6" long. I also put a cable from the postive terminal on the alternator to the postive terminal on the battery.

Speaking of the alternator, did everyone know that our 105/115amp alternators have only 12 guage wire feeding them to the engine/electrical??

0/1, isnt that some thick cabling?

4 gauge is used in HKS, Apexi, and Grip Ground Wire Kits.

and no this is not a turbonator type of add on its the real deal... many cars run ground wire kits and i dont believe you gain HP/TQ, it frees up the HP/TQ lost through your factory ground wire.

Lol, yeah 0/1 is just over a half inch thick i think. I originally did it for my sound system, because I'm pushing well over 150amps continuous.

I really need to buy some 4 guage and make some cables so my honda will start/run correctly.

Modified Magazine dyno'd one on a SS/SC a few issues back and it netted ~+5whp and +0wtq

on the matrix forums alot of people were doing this mod and they loved it,just seem to inprove alot of the things you guys have stated,now all we need is a company to produce a pre-fabbed package for sale,this is a quality mod that has not been discussed,and if it has this is the first time I've seen it

i have seen a few that run off a distribution plate mounted along the firewall. im not sure if this works the same way but ill continue looking into it.

then all you do is mount the plate. connect the head, battery, tranny, and everything to the plate. sounds to simple to me though.
