The same could be said of most generation evos. It's a lancer with better powertrain and suspension. It's just got a much more expensive upgrade than the cobalt.

cobalts are nice eco cars that have potential. evos are in a different category imo.

Yeah evo's break just as much. Any car you mod isn't going to be perfect. Modding just adds stress to things so of course stuffs going to break and wear faster. Good thing about Evo's though is they have so much aftermarket support. I'm sure if the cobalt was still in production and being made either the SC or TC and more people owned them there would be more companies support the cobalt.

To the OP. Have you hit any water lately? Has it rained where you live? If so you could really benefit from a short ram intake. Cold Air intakes, especially AEM and Injen suck up water really easy. It can be dry out and you could have just sucked up water in the past. Try cleaning it and I bet it goes away til next time it rains.

OP either you bought someone else's problems or its your sketchy mod list. A 600 hp IC wouldnt be necessary unless your getting into serious power or racing which also beats the crap out of our "cheap thrill" Cobalts. Now that the cheap thrill ride is over are you ready to go mod the hell out of a beat to death (and probably expensive USED) evo or fork over some serious cash ($+30k) and hope your NEW mitsubushi never has a problem. but its warrantied cause you paid to play.

The reason the Cobalt is slower is because GM (for some reason) lets their design engineers set their lap times (Cobalt SS TC, CTS V, and Corvette Z06/ZR1) while all other companies I know of let professional racing drivers set the times. When Car & Driver did the 2008 Lightning Lap (common reference) the Cobalt SS TC was 0.3 s faster than the current EVO MR and 6 seconds faster than the current WRX STI on VIR

why am i not surpriced to see a thread like this. Since when is getting an evo is the biggest upgrade coming from a cobalt? yea evos are nice and all, but they break just as much if not more than cobalts due specially if you dont know what ur dealing with.

Can't really compare the 'ring times on the Balt to the EVO, or really compare the cars at all for that matter. The evo is like twice as much.

I heard about this guy who bought an evo MR (auto trans), went to the track and broke the trans and somehow they found out it was at the track and he was stuck with a ~ $20k bill..

For 20k I hope he broke more than a trans. They shouldn't warranty that either way.

John Heinricy (sp) is hardly just some engineer. Dude can drive and has an extensive amature racing career. He also has a ton of laps there so he knows that track extremely well.

I want an Evo, but if I had a bit more $$ I'd get a GT-R.

still an experienced driver not a professional driver. check Motor Trend's Mustang GT vs BMW M3 comparison. MT drivers (experienced drivers) were something like 4-5 seconds slower in the M3 and 3-4 seconds slower in the Mustang than the pro driver on a 1.8 mile track. Imagine the gap on the Nurburgring (almost 13 miles). he's much higher than average, no doubt, but he's still not a pro driver.

you mean if you had about 4 times as much? Who wouldn't want one? I drool every time I pass one, there's 2 or 3 that I know of that are owned within 10 miles of my house.

no, just the trans. they said no one in Canada is authorized to work on it and they have to send it to Japan to look at it and fix and send it back or replace it with a new one.

On a note not pertaining to any particular car, OP if you want something reliable you're gonna be stuck driving a stock car all the time, pretty much any car will be unreliable once modded. The more modding your do the more reliability you sacrifice unless you really know what you're doing.

It's a totally different track too.

11 time scca national champ. I think he could be a pro if he had wanted. I don't think a pro is going to pick up some huge amount of time in an unfamiliar car.
