Headlight removal is a B

After wrestling with them in the cold for an hour, I gave up. I got the drivers side out ok, but the bulb WOULD NOT come out of there. Out of every vehicle I've owned, this is by far the WORST to replace freaking headlight bulbs. Yes, I removed the bolts and clips and still could not get them out. I don't feel like cracking or scratching my paint.

You have to pull them forward just enough to get the clip things underneath them to let go so you can maneuver them off the car.

Maybe I'll try another day. For now, it's just too cold outside and my Camaro is not leaving the garage on it's own power. The stock bulbs suck in these cars, so I bought Philips Crystal Vision Ultra's and I want to put them in.

i have gen 1 projectors. the aiming system sucks and the bulbs burnt out on me 3 times in less then a year. everytime i put in a new bulb i have to re-aim them, which means i have to take them out. i can remove both headlights now blind folded, hanging upside down, and using only my feet. those lights have been in and out sooooo many times. once you get to it, and take you time, it will become clock work.

also, after market, brighter lights, usually have a lower life span, so you will have to change them more often....get used to it

You dont even have to remove the headlights to change the bulb. Rotate that ring, pull out bulb, replace bulb, reinsert bulb, lock ring into place. Simple.

It's all there in the owners manual, btw.

I read the manual. It said to pull the housings. How did you fit your hand in there without removing them?

takes me a whopping minute per side to take them out... its not hard. remove 2 screws, pull the bumper back a little bit, then pull headlight housing out

Is there a trick to getting the headlight assembly back in? I removed the complete assemblies from both sides and now one is a bit higher above the bumper than the other one.

It was a little annoying but I didn't really think it was a big deal. It took me 10 mins to change over to my 2nd gens.

I got both of mine almost perfect now. The headlight aim was off so I parked about 10 feet away from the garage door and adjusted one till they were both the same. Now I'm happy!

Loosen the fender bolts. There are three. if you pull the fender back, it gives you much more room...

I took mine out twice today. My harness is getting coroded, and nastied up. Changing tomorrow. It gets easier with time. Less of that "it's gonna break" feeling.

I had the pleasure of both my headlights getting moisture inside, so both of them have been in and out numerous times. It does get easier each time

Did you read the thread? I posted this back in Feb. I figured it out once it wasn't so brutally cold.

He was just trying to help. Better than not getting any help at all with a problem. I know I've been there.

Thanks for the 2˘, C0balt2007.

I know, I wasn't being serious, hence the smiley. But I for sure thought I was going to break something removing these things.

Yeah, I was helping a friend put an intake in his SSTC the other day and we had a heck of a time getting it out, while not scratching the paint on the top of the bumper. I'm going to try some of the methods described here next time I take them out and see if it's any better.
