Ok, so help me out peeps.

If several tests show that a stock SS/SC will top at at 141-142 mph, then how is it that some people say our cars will hit near 150mph or above?

Could our speedometers just be off a bit at higher speeds?

Do not the testing journals adjust Top Speed results for wind conditions, etc.?

every speed pull ive done i used hp tuners to verify the top speed. I have a few mods done to my car so that bumps the top speed up and I also had my wing removed which reduces drag

I think it was around 140 weaving around traffic while I was street racing at 10 pm on a two lane road....

Only kidding. Actually it was 115-120ish on a smooth backroad out in the sticks. I stoped because there was an intersection comming up.

Fastest i've driven was 145 in my STi
Fastest in the cobalt was about 110... i haven't felt the need to go very fast.

I think the fastest cobalt i've heard of is when blown 4-banger went 162 or something in his cobalt.

All tests show your speedometers are VERY accurate.

Also all the "testing journals" usually only CALCULATE the top speed using the published numbers of 205hp.
From what I read on an article years ago, Car&Driver actually has a certain "spot" where they went for top speed testing.

While not divulging the location, I remember that they mentioned things like:
  • the amount traffic on that road (almost nil)
  • the people who lived in that area ("same")
  • the condition of that stretch of road (was supposedly repaved by the gov't. not too long ago)

Wish I still had access to that article ...

dont know what to say, i think the spedos are acurate, it may be that they are being conservative for insurance reasons??? i know for a fact these cars will go over 141, and more. im not saying they rocket to it, but if you have enough road, it will top 147+ . maybe c&d didnt have enough road and just gave it a low guesstemated top speed.

I've gone 140mph on a stretch of US-1 above Sanford, NC...but I didn't want to go any faster bc my sun roof literally started to come up and looked like I was going to lose it...I had it closed too....Also, I had my car on a dyno a while back, and my speedo. read 148mph and the dyno said 141mph..so note that the speedo is off the faster you're going in our cars, mine stayed a consistant 2 mph higher than the actual that the dyno was reading until I hit about 110mph then it started to be like 5 mph off.......
