How I cured wheel hop for under $20
When I was in high school my friend owned an old volvo 240 turbo, for that reason we have always loosely kept track of the volvo community. While going through forums the other night I was reading about someone with a volvo 850 turbo who was unhappy with sloppy rubber motor mounts. His solution was simple polyurethane mounts, however the price such mounts kind of sucks. Basically he took polyurethane sealant and filled in holes in his motor mounts with it. After reading this I decided to give it a try. I went to Lowes and got the polyurethane construction adhesive, a caulk gun and duct tape the total cost was around 16 bucks. I used the duct tape on the back of the upper motor mount so that this stuff wouldnt ooze all over my belts and basically by hand just crammed this mess in the spaces in the rubber mounts. If any of you plan on doing this definately wear gloves because the cure time is 24 hours but it seemed to dry very quickly on skin and hair.... . On the upside i have no wheel hop the vibrations are very minimal and i did it for under $20.

Theres not much really to tell, you squirt the stuff into your motor mounts and leave it for however long the manufacturer of the polyurethane adhesive/sealant tells you too and try to not make as big of a mess as i did :P

i mean you could, I didn't and it worked fine. the only real advantage I could see would be a much neater looking job right now it looks like and elephant sneezed near my motor mounts. It's definately not pretty but its really really simple and has so far been effective in some launches i tried in a parking lot near my house. Well see what it does at the drag strip. One other thing about this mod, I wouldnt recommend doing it all in one day like i did, the reason being when i drove it the next day not all of it had dried and it kind of made a gooey mess that had to be fixed up. I would say apply this stuff in layers, so lay a bead or two at a time and let it set up over the course of a day.

If you guys really want a reasonably priced alternative to aftermarket mounts and dont want to do the sloppy/budget style windshield adhesive fill, theres a company that does them with polyuretane rubber for $25 a mount. i had these on my firstr gen neons and they work awesome and come in different durometers depending no how stiff you want them.

FYI filled motor mounts WILL NOT completely eliminate wheel hop.
