How much to barter for?
How much to barter for?
I'm seriously attempting to try and get an SS this winter. Talked it over with my parents and as long as they don't have to pay more than 5K of their own money they won't care. So, usually in the winter, SS's are generally cheaper (correct me if I'm wrong). Now, obviously I will look on this forum first once I actually have the money since I trust you guys more than some guy off of CL, but IF I go to a dealer and the price is listed at lets say 10,000 for an 06 SS, how much should I aim for? 9K? 9.5?
need some bartering tips! lol. Thanks for any help

dealer shopping 101.......
locate a vehicle at a dealership first. research online as to the book value and market value is. make up your mind as to what you are willing to pay for the vehicle, keeping in mind that you can typically bargain 10% off the asking price. check the vehicle out and if it is something you would like to purchase, tell them what you will pay for it and stick to that price....don't accept their haggling and be prepared to walk out if they don't accept your offer. go in on a saturday or sunday with bad weather if you want the best deal.
good luck

Being prepared to walk is critical.......don't cave because "you really really want that car". Know going in what you are willing to pay, don't let them bully you (they WILL try), if they won't deal then get up, say "thanks for your time." and head for the door. I have seen sales people literally running out the door after a customer "Wait, maybe we can do it for the price you want!"
Crappy weather means a lot with no customers and car sales is commission based - let the sales guy / gal be the one that's desperate to make a deal
If at all possible, get your financing arranged ahead of time - not only will you know how much you can really spend but you will almost always come out better than if you let the dealer arrange financing.
