Been reading through the posts and see that I'm not the only "person of a certain age" on the boards.
44, but most days I feel 20something.

the funniest thing... most of the under 20 group here has a bunch of mods..how?

wish i had parents to do that. when i was 18 i was out of the house. parents helped but until 21 i worked 2 jobs+school full time. since last yr i moved 1600 miles to texas where the pay is the same but cost of living is much less...i make pretty good money but i couldn't throw the cash into a new car that some of you do. would never give a new driver a SS...parents must be crazy. i know many drove like i drove...tires got expensive.

no doubt man! being 18 i couldnt even afford a good car, let alone the flipping insurance. i was clearin like $1200 a month that workign fulltime and going to school fulltime.

I now clear $2500 a month after tax and i STILL cant find the cash to mod my car haha

I'm 20 here and driving a 06 LS that I bought. Parents bought my other car back when I was in HS. More like I wrecked my Mom's car and I got it to fix it myself and she got another vehicle.
I hate the stereotype of younger kids having cars only because their parents paid for them.

I work two jobs to pay for my car, pay for my mods, pay for my gas, and pay for the food I eat. Yes, my car is a lease, thats how I can afford it, suddenly because I'm 17, my parents bought everything for me? My parents won't even pay for me to eat, why the hell would they buy me a car???

Im 21

When I got my first car, my parents pulled up in it at school... and told me they bought me a car. I was ecstatic! Unitl I got home and they told me that I am making the car and insurance payments myself... I was like WTF?? Dom't tell me u bought me a car and want me to pay for it! lmao j/k

I make about $1800-2000 a month on average, and still live with my mom, and I STILL have no cash to drop in my car for anything other than fuel and car wash supplies! lol

EDIT: Fixed an embarassing typo

I pay for my car which happens to be $550 a month, before insurance, as well as everything else at 20.
how? I'm single & a my job title is civil engineer technician.

As for the parents thing, my first vehicle was paid in full for me as a birthday present at 16 which was a 1990 bronco II. Old and crappy but I loved it. Next was my 99 mercury cougar which they helped by cosigning. 3rd was this car which is entirly in my name.

Yeah, I would love for someone to pay for my car as well, but age can't determine weather somebody deserves it, or automatically had their parents pay for it. If whoever it is realizes and appreciates the generocity then I don't see anything wrong with it.

Well majority of the people under 20 with the expensive cars and mods are being helped out by their parents. That is reality.

My situation at 20 is I'm engaged to my lovely fiance. I work full-time and go to TWO schools full-time one for my automotive degree and one for the dealership I'm working for. I have my car payment, insurance, food, savings, and our wedding that's coming up September 2007. All that on $7/hr. I still live with my parents, but thats the only thing I'm not paying rent and utilities. I still manage to get some mods up may take me a couple weeks for one thing or something, but it just takes dedicated.

Mine was a 88 B2 loved it as well. Gift from parents as well. My Sentra well I wrecked it so I had to fix it and took over everything. Then I bought my Saturn SC2 traded it in on my lowrider GMC Sonoma...then traded that in on my 06 Cobalt. All that within 9 months(hince why I have a huge car payment...started off 6 grand in the hole). So 4 years after having my license I'm on my 5th vehicle and I still have my Sentra as my project vehicle.

the only thing my parents are helping me out with is giving me a place to stay, food, and clothing.

if i don't need ot pay for a place to stay while at collage then its all good. yeha we have a collage here so i work, sleep, and learn all in one place... now thats a sweet deal if you ask me.
