How to program a new FOB?

I broke mine. I was trying the adjust the battery and broke the metal piece that holds the battery in.

So I guess I need a new one.

When I get one (ebay), how do I reprogram it? I assume I'll need to do something, right?

you can solder the piece that you broke off back on. just solder it back to where it was at the two contact points. it will be better than new. most gm dealerships can also do it for .5 of labour. depends how much a new one is i guess. as for programing, it will need to be done with a tech2 scantool if I recall correctly. which will be another .5 at gm.

Labor rate is like $130. So at 0.5 = $65. WTF. Wow. A OEM remote on ebay is $15 shipped.

Yep, new FOBs can only be programmed with a tech2. You have to take it to the dealership and have them do it.

130/hr? Holy hell... my area is the mid to upper 60's/hour.

Anyways, yes you will have to have it programmed at the dealership. These are not like the older GM fobs that could be done at home.
