Alright guys, a while back I heard a tuned cobalt could walk a stage 2 SS/SC....So I ordered 42#ers an ETD (Ingalls) and getting a custom tune here at home. So what do you think, honestly?
People on HPTUNERS forum board are arguing with one guy saying that it will do little if anything, and some cobalt owners/tuners say totally different. Please, like I always say" No flaming, keep it clean." Thanks!

 

Well, stage 2 cobalts have more boost to work with, so IDK. I guess it would depend on how radical the tuned "stock" cobalt's tune was.

 

I doubt it... you really run out of top end on stock pulley

 

I wouldnt say that, look at ralliartist who hit a mid 13 i believe on a stock pulley.

 

I don't know how people can say that there is little to nothing to be gained in a tune though. After all, stage 1 is only a tune and injectors...

 

and also slicks with the launch from hell at 5000rpm.

 

my point exactly. i mean, I will eventually go with a smaller pulley. But for now, I think the tune and injectors will really free up some ponies and performance. Because if you guys saw my vid of me and the stage 2, it was close up until 3rd and then he pulls on me, but if it's that close maybe it'll be enough to even the odds.

 

Yah he hit mid 13's.... But I think he would agree the top end is where a stock pulley is lacking, if you compare how much mph he picks up on the back half to the first half you can tell it falls off a bit...

(And I'm not saying anything bad about his runs, just talking about stock pulley)

Yah that he does... which prevents less HP loss from heat...... so i'm sure his car would take down a stage 2...

but with JUST a tune an no other mods besides 42lb'ers i think it would be a stretch

 

it depends on the tune and the tuner.... and dont rule out the car itself, we all know that some of the ss/sc were just a straight up factory beast putting down 230whp bone stock.. and others put down 200whp stock.. so from what i just said.. u figure it out.. cuz im just gonna lay it out for you to play it out

LOl yeah. It got a little ugly..which is not what I wanted. But it's ok.

I claimed factory freak a while back and got FLAAAAMEED..and people asked for dyno #'s and what you see in my sig is bone stock dyno..That's why I think this tune will help.

..So ya'll can be the judge..40-100 mph roll run.
That's why I think it would be a closer run with me having a higher rev-limit..to help keep me in power-band.

 

My stock pulley , stock injector , tuned SS held itself well against a straight stage 2 car ... not all of them , but at least great deal of them . It ran mid-high 13's @ 101-103 and 60'ed 2.1-2.0 . Best being a 13.6@103 with a 2.11 60 ft . The tune was bit on the ragged edge , but not enuff to hurt it over the coarse of 50K miles .

 

umm u didnt specify which had the airbox bod and what was stage 2, either way.. neither car pulled very hard from each other

 

Well, the black one is me..and I have just airbox mod. See what I am saying about this tune and improving my chances lol?
