Im worried!!!
Today I made another trip to Carmax to show my mom the cobalt and get her opinion. Well this time I popped the hood andfound something I wasnt expecting. I found that the valve cover and front bumper(area that is under hood) to have, what appeared to be, dexcool dripped all over them. The car has about 22 miles on it. This worries me, is it possibly just from transport or from the factory?
Also, the supercharger housing appeared to have (looks like to me) orange gasket sealer or rtv in the sections of the housing just behind the pulley shaft and the section just behind that one. This bithers me also because you would think that it was dry by now, but it was still tacky. I hope this stuff is ok, because this is my favorite Cobalt SS so far.
Thanks for your help.

When they filled the rad at the factory they could have done a sloppy job and spilled some on the engine, maybe the rad cap isn't on tight enough also. In any case, if you do decide to buy this car have them clean it spotless and take it for at least a 25 mile test drive...pop the hood and if you see even a hint of Dexcool anywhere pass on this car. BTW, if they say you can't drive it 25 mile ( I'd go even farther if you can ) first then I wouldn't buy it.

Good idea also, in a few weeks the 06 will be a past model and worth less. If GM doesn't come up with a good ( and I mean good ) incentive then I would order a 07 instead, I'm waiting myself to see what incentives come out before deciding what to do.

That's true but you bought your SS to drive not sit at the dealer waiting to get repaired, like I said it might just have been a sloppy job of filling the rad at the factory.
where im from, carmax is a used car dealer chain. they also do like 150 point inspection on their cars, including title searches. so they should know if anything happened to the car. Ask them for a print out on it.
well the carmax in my town bought out the building that a GM dealership was in, so now they have a giant new car lot and a eqully big used car lot. the car im looking at is brand new with only 22 miles on it.
i would not buy it
i used to live in kenosha man and i do not trust carmax one bit i had bought a used cavalier from there and there quote unquote safety inspection i had the car one day and it broke down on me so much for them not selling lemons and they raked me over on a used cavalier i would not buy a car from there if i was you who knows what has happened to that car i dont really trust their 120 point safety inspection id say its more like 1.2 safety inspection.
I have a friend that used to work as a technician at Carmax. He worked on new and used cars. But, from the stories he has told and what I saw myself, I wouldnt deal with Carmax for anything. I had many, many, many Saabs come to the Saab dealership I worked at, that the people at Carmax screwed up or didnt repair correctly.
Well, just for some input, my car has the orange stuff also, exactly where you describe it. As far as the dexcool stuff...IDK. It MIGHT be just a sloppy job, but i havn't heard of any other cases like this before....i'd be a bit weary and like Dark Age said....have them clean it then take it for a long test drive.

There is only a $500 incentive on SS/SC's. I did however buy mine for ~$4,500 off the sticker.
