Input on Upcomming 08' turbo balts

Just want to know how people with the ss/sc feel about the 08's comming out turbo? me personally i'm stuck in the middle. i like the idea cuz my lease is up by then, but then i feel i already put money into my balt and i might keep it. I'm just wondering how the aftermarket will be affected. Like will they just drop the ss/sc and stop making stuff for it becuase of the turbo platform or what?

I haven't heard any official news yet. If they did it would be nice for the consumer.

Well I'm buying an 07 SS S/C, and I feel lucky to have gotten one before the turbo version came out. (even if its just speculation at this point)

The turbo might make more power (on paper), but I much prefer the S/C, even if the best we have seen so far out of it is ~295hp.

If/when GM comes out with Stage III, I think thats about it for the SS S/C. Anything after that would probably just be TSBs and recalls. jk

we are seriously getting one of these threads a day now. Someone please make it stop!

As for the aftermarket, it will still be there for the SC. Once a car gets heavy in the used market is when the aftermarket really takes off for it. The best is yet to come for the SCs, 2008 turbo or not.

And, there are plenty of cars where the "older" generation has a larger aftermarket then the current gen. (EX Eclipse) But just like we did, they'll have to wait a year or two before anything besides exhaust/intake will become available, so the market will still be there.

Ok, here it is.... the 08' will be SC..... after that I can not divulge. I can tell yuo that no matter what, the 09' WILL NOT HAVE 240HP, and will have substatially less.

Nto saying it is turbo, or anything, but I DO knwo the LSJ will be put in AT LEAST untill the 09' models come out, and after that....well... I like my job, I will leave it at that.

sorry, but for the last 3 months I have read all this crap about new turbo Cobalts and it is annoying me the ammouunt of misinformation out there.

there will most likely be a s/c and turbo option, the more ss models the better

My understanding was that GM was sticking with the SC in the Cobalt... that there are fitment issues... the only reason they could fit a turbo on the Solstice was because it is mounted front to rear... That was how I took it in. And I wouldn't see GM switching the Cobalt SS/SC to a turbo... Unless they switched body style... but that's just me, my 2 cents.

Or maybe this... I could see that happening... but at the same time... No I couldn't I could see GM wanting one or the other. But we gotta let GM know what we want.

I haven't seen any concrete proof that the 2008 'balt will be turbo.

Furthermore... I haven't seen any stock dynos of the Solstice GXP or Sky Redline yet to see what the 2.0T is actually putting to the ground.

I'd wager that the hp outputs from the LSJ and 2.0T are gonna be similar...

Probably not... for the simple fact that Turbo (when done properly) can help an engine run more efficiently... gets the air (exhaust mostly) flowing a lot better. Plus a S/C actually uses a certain amount of an engines HP to power itself. BUT, it depends on the size of the Turbo they put in there.... if pushing the same PSI, then the Turbo would be better... I believe 12.5psi with a S/C is about same power as 9psi with a Turbo.

when i hear these kinds of opinions.....i think to myself....hmmm why would GM go with a SC when a turbo sounds so much better?

when you come up with the answer to that question....youll have the answer to why GM is not likely to change to the turbo cobalt.

just my thoughts.

(heres a hint. think in your head of examples of a 2.X liter Turbo engine.......I can come up with 4 within about 5 seconds)

Just got the Solstice facts off Pontiac.com... It's pushing 260hp/260tq with a 0-60 under 5.5secs. standard 5-speed manual or an optional 5-speed auto. Direct injection tech, pontiac's first D.I. in North America! There ya have it. A BEAST! But Ugly in my opinion.

I wasn't saying probably not to GM putting a Turbo in a Cobalt... I was saying probably not to the HP being the same in a S/C 2.0 and Turbo 2.0. I Think that the Turbo on our car's would make them a lot faster stock, and a lot faster with some AFTERMARKET turbo's.

Personally, I could care less if they come out with a turbo in 08'. Even if a turbo engine could have more aftermarket options, I personally don't need 300hp under my hood with all the aftermarket goodies.

I would rather see GM stick with the S/C... I like my car being different. I don't want to be Turbo like Honda's, SRT's, Toyota's, so on so on... I like the WHINE!

yah i know. and i agree with the aftermarket comment.
but stock i think youll find barely a difference.

but either way, i was just pointing out that its not the math that helped GM decide to supercharge instead of turbo.
it was the fact that on this platform a turbo 2.0 or 2.4 is nothing special anymore.
everyones got one these days
Scion
Mazda3
Srt4 neon
Srt4 Caliber
Eagle talons
VW golf

theres probably more.

how many are supercharged again?
