Interesting observation.

Why (in your own personal opinion) wasn't the winner of the popular Time Attack event (A 06' Cobalt SS/SC) featured on the front cover of the well known Super Street magazine?

Is it because it's an "American car" and Super Street would be looked down on if they did such a thing?

Are they ashamed that the little Cobalt whipped tail in this event against the BIG BOYS?

The whole "Imports are superior" thing will crumble to the ground?

Was the inside article enough for you?

Would send shock waves through the tuner community that a "Chevy" is on the cover?

The old "Front Wheel Drive vs. Rear Wheel Drive vs. All Wheel Drive will come to surface again?

Have they ever featured an American car on it's cover in it's history of it's publication?

Is this or is this not IMPORTant to you? (pun intended)

Please. Remember this when responding. This is NOT a thread to start a flame war. Other people will read this from other sources. Let's be better than the other forums out there. So with that in mind, act your age not your shoe size. know what I mean?
Post your thoughts.

as a regular reader of that mag i was supried as well....but i've never put alot of real thought be hind why it dident make the cover....if i had to make a guess tho i would say its because its a domestic car and not an import.....i guess it doesnt matter if you win to them because its gotta be an import

I think Super Street did Chevy right with the article ...I mean throughout that entire Time of Attack spread there were positive comments about it , but it shoulda been on the cover . I think Super Street was playin to both crowds . Hmm , lets give the car a nice spread to please the GM and the fans of it , but lets not give it a cover shot to save some hate mail . I think all the participants and ALOT of the tuner crowd that so vocally shamed the time of attack SS need to step back and really see how the car was built . Sure , they had a endless supply pre-heated hoosiers and one genius of a driver . But , as a purpose build race car ....I didnt really find anything exotic about it .

The import community has thrived for years now without any serious or legitimate competion from an american sport compact car . So in a way , the Cobalt SS and Neon SRT-4 are crashing the party . I think the Cobalt will have alot of proving to do before these people show any respect all . Proving from actual Cobalt owners , not race teams or GM itself . With abilty to tune the PCM now , guys like Rob(FAST06SS) getting people excited about modding their car with the killer results of his own , and seeing how many people on here are getting serious with their car .....it wont take long for people to realize this car is for real and lose it , hopefully ....its current glorified Cavalier generalazation that so many people like to give it .

Until then , ignorance is bliss

And it's for this reason that I don't read these magazines. Yes, they have some good information on some topics - however, most of them seem generally biased towards one or another type of car, or certain companies.

I personally like the fact that people don't know too much about the car.. or that it's not overly publicized - I don't want to feel like a random fanboy by owning a Cobalt SS. Does that make sense to anyone? I mean, yes, it's quite popular, but look at me! I'm 1 of 2 cobalt SS's in the UK, and stateside the numbers seem generally sporadic. Kinda makes me feel like we're unpredictable. Always an awesome feeling when you're leaving the competition 3 cars behind and they're saying "What the hell is going on!?"

I wish I could take a picture of there faces.

I really wish the Cobalt got as much respect as the SRT-4, seeing as how they are becoming the kings of the sport compact scene, or at least contending.

What I thought was ******* awesome was the guy that drove the car, John Heinricy was the brain behind the Chevrolet Citation X-11, the grandfather of the FWD performance car. This guy is a legend in my mind due to his influence on the X11, the Z24's, the Cobalt SS/SC... and they went out and DEVASTATED the competition! And if you read the articles, there was bitching and moaning from the other competitors that the Cobalt SS was a 'factory' entry and it wasn't fair. Super Street went on to say that the Cobalt SS was a fair entered car because everything on it was readily and easily available to anyone. There were no factory special parts, or anything that can't be had by John Q. Ricer.

All I have to say is sit on it and spin, the Cobalt SS has arrived (Now I just have to get me one )

I agree with you, i hardly ever see any Cobalt SS/SC's around here, and i like it that way. And the ones i do see i feel a kinship with , haha... Like being part of a rare family, at least for now, and it does seem more like a sleeper that way because not many know about it. When i get my Stage 2 dropped in its really going to turn some heads... I can't wait I love the car already and with the mods I have in mind in the future its gonna be a real contender with most everything i see around here.... They just won't know it till they see my tailights ..

no... its 'sit on it and rotate!'

yeah its because its a chevy and not a honda or other import. Whenever I pass by a mag stand i try to look for anything on the cobalt, and I always end up with nothing.

Thanks for the well thought out responses guys. Good answers.

I agree. The "sleeper" mode is a good mode to be in. I stay in Dayton, OH and I have yet to see another SS supercharged on the road at all since I owned mine, seriously!! So with that said, no one really knows what the heck I'm driving when they see it.

I also think the amount of parts available speak volumes for the imports because obviously they have tons available on the shelf.

For us we're just getting started, thanks to Intense, Rev it up and a few other companies (I would have said GM, but they were to slow to get stage kits out) I feel we're picking up some good ground.

Stage 3 installed, stage 5 well on the way!!

It's a blessing in disguise IMO. Yeah I would love to see the Cobalt get the respect that it deserves, but I would much rather prove that it means business through each one of my encounters.

WOW this is a very interesting thread, I am glad that everyone has had good well thought out responses. I own a Cobalt SS 2.4 and I rarely see another SS/SC or SS/NA in my city or anywhere for that matter. I love it when people walk by and are like "damn thats nice... what the hell is it" the only thing that has slightly bothered me is when the people who know a little bit about cobalts say "where's the supercharger?" or "its not an SS if it isnt supercharged." But I shrug these comments off and just think "wait until we get turbocharged and then there will be no questions asked." I am very happy with all of the possitive thoughts that the Cobalt gets but I cant wait until American sport compacts get the respect in the street/strip racing world that they deserve and its somewhat up to the people like us to do this. I like being a sleeper but I also want that "damn" effect.

The cavy and neons put a very sour taste into the mouths of consumers and magazines alike. It was like they were the kids always just 'trying' to fit into a market they knew little about. Then came along the SRT-4 which turned many heads in the tuner world but it got a lot of crap for being a neon. After that the SS/SC has come along which is a completely different car and is quickly losing the early glorified cavy jokes and when someone looks at it up close the cavy comparison no longer applies. Now with the leave of the SRT-4 of old the SS/SC is the car turning heads everywhere it goes and I think that may scare some. A car that can perform not only as a daily driver but one with enough potential to become a land speed champion, drag champion and autox champion. Last I checked the Cobalt was on a mission to get each one of those titles and so far it looks to gain those goals. ... That's a lot to swallow in such a short time that the Cobalt has been in production.

Last I heard, the Cobalt owns on the 1/4 mile. It was the first FWD to break into the 9's and currently has the record for best time.

I wish there was more talk about forged pistons than turbo charging it. there is alot that can be done with the supercharger. and turbo charger would be alright too, but with out stronger internals we are at a stand still or take the chance to blow up.

Good one..
See, I knew we had some intellegent folk on hrrrr!! I guess it all boils down to this......

Forget earning respect, well just ****** it from them when the opportunity comes. Weather on the street, drag strip, or road course ( Notice I didn't say WRC off road challenge. ) we seem to be ranked pretty good.
Let it be said that these cars have bigtime potential. Since they just came out over here, I hope GM really runs with this car.
