interior removal

so i stripped all of my interior out over the weekend. i dont have a scale to weight it all but including all the safety belts and heavy pieces i think it is around 200 pounds or so with everything. sounds dumb to do it but its gonna be a car for one thing and one thing only...driving...and it sits about 1/2 an inch higher now so its a decent amount of weight for the car. just thought id share.

well the spare, jack, carpet, and seats will net you roughly 150 lbs.

i'm seriously considering stripping the back seat completely, and then recarpeting to make it look "factory" and maybe a roll bar and harness mount bar.

Well a roll bar would add weight but with a harness would be awesome. Can you say, safe

yeah, but with the rear seats out, and the spare and all that, it would more than make up for the difference.

ik this is bullshit lol the spare and jack together weighs 35lbs i have weighed mine that i took out. and those seats are so light. id say maybe a 100 all together not really worth it but it is a cheap "mod"

yea, i highly doubt he got 200lbs out of all of it. I would put money on it that he didn't. The spare tire and jack and seats will not get you even remotely close to 150lbs. More like 80lbs. Anyways, not here to bash, just a question.

Does anyone know at what speed or 1/4mile time you are required to have a roll cage. Its for 11.99 not 12.99 correct? If its for the 12s, i guess i need a cage =/.

Lots of wrong here. Please check the how-to, all of that crap has been weighed. It was like 140-150 lb range. I think a roll cage would be awesome for racing seat belts. At least you would have more security in a car crash.

i agree, facts are the best. But i still don't see how a spare tire, a jack, and the back seats weigh 150lbs.

Well the How-To has been deleted, which really sucks because I can't prove it now. You can look around I found threads linking to it. Guess the member left. Try removing your front see and see how you feel about it. It adds up really quick. And for someone like me with Sub and Amp in the back, 200 lbs is a huge difference at the strip

I would personally rather just get more power then stripping out my car. My 2 cents, cobalts aren't 1/4mile cars, they shouldn't be stripped out and gutted for just a few tenths of a second shaved off. If you want real power, grab a power adder, nitrous/supercharger/turbo.

I haven't done any weight reduction, hell I have added weight to it, and I will be saying hello to 12s.

As suggested...jack and spare=good reduction but not good for dd unless you have runflats. Oh and the classic "lightweight racing battery"

People often don't realize this but the factory 18's are hella heavy. Switch to 17's (I suggest the redline chrome) and you'll shave a good 2 pounds per wheel/tire (estimate). I have the 17 ss/na wheels and they're heavier than the factory rl chrome...could be tire related however. Or get lightweight 16's.

Then get rid of the 50 pounds of tools you have in the trunk and you're good to go...oh wait that's just me.

Reducing weight is kind of like adding power (or reclaiming power). You handle better and accelerate faster.

It's 11.49 or faster. Trust me I know from experience. I made one run and got booted; this was after driving about 2hrs one way. LOL It was worth it though to get my 10.85 pass.

I think people that gut their whole interior are jokers. Sorry but pulling out your whole interior to run MAYBE .2 faster is a waste. I've seen so many guys at the track pull everything but the drivers seat and they are still running anywhere from 18-14 sec in the 1/4. Your not driving a race car, not to mention that removing the back seat, carpet, door panels, ect make the car much louder on the inside. I couldn't believe how much louder my car was just from removing the back seat.

I had my rear seat, and jack and spare tire pulled out and I saved 85lbs and that is the farthest I would ever go. I also made a really nice RSD for it so it just didn't look bare in the back. Most people asked me where I bought my RSD at and I told them I made it, I ended up selling about 5 of them to guys for $40 a pop and I had maybe $25 in it for all 5 of them. LOL

I just bought 03/04 Cobra seats for my car so the back seat is back in now. Gotta love the suede inserts.

i hope your talking about your mustang, cause cobalt rears are solid cushion.. theres a 10 lb bar holding em in, and the cushions might weigh a combined 5-10 lbs. The front seats are heavy as hell though...maybe 60-70lbs each

the above also supports the removing 150lbs from the car theory. if youve ever taken your seats out, youll realize how heavy they are. each seat is about 65lbs, thats 130lbs right there...the spare and jack are maybe 30lbs too. everything else in the car that can be removed is pretty light, so you would need to remove most of them to make a noticeable gain.

Yea I'm talking about my Mustang, the back seat in my car weighs about 40lbs.

200lbs is a lot of weight to shave off in any car. It pretty hard to do it buy just pulling out interior parts alone, most people swap to light weight rims (ones you can pick up with one finger) and a tubular K-Member.

My buddy had his 04 KB Cobra down to 3,200-3,300lbs and had full interior.
