Most superchips chips don't work longterm. Reason being is that the ECU in most cars and trucks are programmed to automatically adjust any changes in data (i.e. fuel, timing etc) back to stock settings. So sure duperchips do make a big difference atr first but over the course of a week or 2 of driving the computer will make the adjustments to get back within proper ranges. The sad part is that it's slow, so a lot of people think they've got more power months later when its really just still stock, or very close to it. Don't shoot the messenger.

Are you sure? Has anyone got this problem too? I thought it's a permanent change to the fuel map. On the Superchips site, I see that it works especially well with turbo/charged engines at least 20bhp gain. So 235 bhp sounds quite believable.

Come to think of it, I didn't get an ash tray! Isn't there supposed to be an ash tray that sits inside one of the cup holders?

The dealer called me back today, they said they would give me the road hazard warranty for free, and I might even cover the tire if I wait a few weeks. Supposedly, it takes up to 30 days for the registration to take effect, and the warranty doesn't cover anything until then. So don't drive your cars any for the first 30 days because the warranties don't count, whatever, BS

I'm sure the "clearcoat sealer" is just a regular wax, probably cost them $30 total for the wax and their detailer's time. I look at it 2 ways, I either paid for the "environmental protection package" or I payed a little less than $2000 over msrp for "market value". Of course I would of liked to have payed less than mrsrp, but Bill Heard is THE largest Chevy dealer and I was convinced that they would not let it go for any less. Someone else would have paid more for it, I was just lucky to get there before them and I was comfortable enough paying the amount that I finally settled on. The dealerships in Florida are not exactly littered with SS's (only showed 2 in Florida on the car locater on Chevy's web site), and I'm just not patient enough to order one.

I might be wrong but I doubt it. The most common cases I saw were in the diesel trucks. GM Ford and Dodge would add these superchips in and after about a month the trucks felt stock. You're right though it does change the fuel map but the computer sees the change and makes adjustments to bring the changes back in line with the stock settings. You see the ECU/PCM is a flash memory. It's set to do certain things. There's redundancy built into it so if anything changes (i.e. elevation etc) that makes the fuel map air, temperatures, barometric pressure etc change, the computer can compensate for the change.

Obviously GM is already rebating this car, and that's HORRIBLE news for anyone concerned one iota about maintaining value. In my opinion, you’ve got to be completely insane to pay one dollar over invoice for this car --- and borderline nuts to pay anything more than invoice +2% (which if you can’t negotiate now, you will be in a few months).
If you read the article it's entirely about opinion. They author doesn't even seem to have driven the car. He just nit picks the fit and finish.

Ok if I had the choice between a 6 year old Cobalt and a Brand new Neon/Corolla/Sentra, I would take the brand new car.

Man I can't believe the crap people post on the net and call it journalism. The guy never drove the car, or I believe saw one. All the pictures are common web pictures.

Oh well.

Okay so you're saying that the Ion/Cobalt don't share the same platform? Clarify please? I'm not discounting that the "journalist" is full of crap when it comes to specs, but you have to realize 90% of these writers aren't really car enthusiasts. So the goof up on the name of a platform is almost to be expected.

They article author states the Ion and Cobalt are built on the Epsilon platform. They Epsilon is the malibu the Delta is the ION/Cobalt. It doesn't even seem like he read the GM press kit.

Ok if the guy isn't a knowledgable about cars and the topic he is authoring an article about maybe he should either research the topic or shut up.

You notice his title is editor in cheif too. Sad...

Yep I paided invoice for my Cobalt for my cobalt too. Also got the Free sunroof and XM deal too... I also had a trade in so that kinda muddies the actual cost of the vehicle cause the dealer can make up money there.

If your dealer is trying to jack up the price, tell them you will wait a few months after the car is still sitting there and come back and buy it for less than MSRP Cobalt SS/SC is a nice car but it isn't that nice.

Actually why don't you read more than one magazine.

http://motortrend.com/roadtests/seda...ng/index4.html

13.9 at the same trap speed that MT got against the Cobalt. Which means, DRIVER ERROR in the 60'

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1

13.9 @ 103

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...eon/index.html

Interesting article on the stoutness of the engine. So in conclusion, the dork behind the wheel of the SRT at the track running against the Cobalt, can't launch for crap. In comparison, if it was the same driver of the Cobalt, then the Cobalt may very well turn quicker ET's.

Not to nick pick but those are reviews for the 2004 SRT-4 and the Motortrend article is the 2005 SRT-4. So it's possible the car is slower this year. As for the bad driver theory I would really hope that magazines don't do one run with a single driver before they release numbers.

If the trap speed was slower I'd agree with you. I've been drag racing for over 10 years, and when numerous people get consistent trap speeds with a consistent e.t.'s then see someone else run the same trap but a slower e.t. then it points to a longer 60'. The 2004 and 2005 are identical. With all due respect

Now adding to the additional part, I wouldn't be surprised if they only made one run on both. So I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cobalt run quicker e.t.'s

the only change for 2005 in the srt-4 was the removal of e.blue and the addition of orange blast, and now the removal of silver and replacing it with stone white. hahaha i dont think that woulld cause it to run .5 slower in the 1/4th

Considering many of the SRT enthusiasts (myself included) are in contact with those that are in very close communication to the PVO team, I can for sure say other than color changes and an ECU plug/recepticle change, there was NO changes to the drivetrain between the 04/05 m/y. That being said, the MT trap speed of 101 mph is an EASY hight 13 sec 1/4 with a 60' of no more than a 2.16. It's just mathematics. Accellerating from 0 ti 101 in 1320 feet takes UNDER 14 seconds. The only reason that the e.t. would be off, is if the car did not get enough traction in the 60' to get a greater than 2.2 in the 60'. Now, my first run in MY SRT at 4200 feet elevation was a 2.1 60' and I clicked off a 14.24 @ 98 mph. So you should easily see the correlation between trap speed and 60'. A friend of mine just got his 2nd SRT (an 05 model) and he ran bone stock 13.9 in California just a few days ago (with about 1800 miles on the car) His 60' was a 2.07 @ sea level. So basically I'm guessing that the driver was expecting more turbo lag off the line, over revved to compensate and probably put down a 2.2-2.4 60' to crack off a 14.4 @ 101mph.

I cant understand why u guys would leave that AMR opinion garbage on here. I checked it out, the guy is a former toyota salesman and has no real background in the car industry other than his self proclaimed title from his 2 man website (him and his buddy) he makes it sound like he is some kind of pro when hes just a tard with an opinion, while he may have some knowledge about economics ( he has a degree for that one)he knows nothing about the cobalt ( hes the proud owner of a vw passat) I wish people would leave the reviews to the people who do that sort of thing ,and show their opinions as just that . not try to make it seem like they have some kind of expertise on a subject they know little or nothing about. Im not knockin the neon or any other american made car but to say that the cobalt is not comparable to any other car is nonsense at best . I would and have bought a cobalt over any and all others cause it is the best!!!!! (and was made in Ohio) of course thats just my opinion and as I am editor in chief of this reply that must mean something.....
