launching failure
launching failure
Yeah so ive had the car about a month now actually a little over, im very impressed how fast it is. My old car was a 94 beretta z26 with intake and exhaust so yeah the balt is definatly faster BUT wow does launching suck in the balt. I havent even actually went all out on a launch yet because the first time i tried i thought i was gonna break something she was hopping so bad, why did GM do this lol. Can someone give me some tips to launching- perhaps my next set of tires might help. I actually dont think ille race anyone for awhile just because i kno that if i gun it she goes all over the place. I mean my 94 didnt hop at all you would think GM would have caught on to this in testing right?? aah mabey its just me tho.
i kno the dampener should help but is there anything else i can do?
thanks guys.
oh feel free to call me a noob when launching that could be the problem i have no idea.

Your 94 didnt hop cuz it didnt have enough power to hop
HAHA im just buggin ya.
Yeah these are very tough cars to launch. Dampers, CABs, Engine mounts...lots of things you can do to control wheelhop.
And whatever you do, if it starts hopping, get your foot out of her fast.
Its not worth broken axles and cracked trannys.

yeah thats what i was afraid of- i only tried it real hard once so far- now i baby the hell out of first lol.
i guess i should have tried it on the test drive
Yeah, this car is tough to launch. If you don't have traction mods, forget about going WOT in first gear. Find the "sweet spot" on the throttle where you're pulling hard, but just short of breaking the tires loose. The suspension on this car as it comes from the factory was *not* set up with drag racing in mind.
Magazines are opininated. Ive gotten mine to 153. it was almost redlined to 6500 ( I think it was around 6350ish) at 14 pounds of boost. Never doing it again though. It was whining soo bad I thought it was gonna blow
Some basic mods you can do: Ingall's Torque Dampener, Aftermarket Engine mounts, tranny mounts, and the list keeps going if you're really serious about it but if you wwant to race people, why not race from a roll. These cars are perfect for racing from a 30 roll.
stock they are limited to 158mph... but you really won;t hit that without mods.. I think the fastest I got to stock was @155 or so
and as for launching... yeah it does really suck on these cars hardcore..
but feather the clutch, get mounts, CAB's or traction bars and it helps... still will get some wheel hop but not nearly as violent as stock

The ETD worked wonders on mine... I can actually get on it first without it feeling like the car is going to fall apart! But yeah, the Damper, solid mounts, and CABs should work wonders if they work as well as the ETD did, than I can only imagine what the others will do!
but do not believe all the hype... you will still have SOME wheelhop no matter what,, the defect is in the drivetrain angle.. to successfully eliminate all wheel hop you need to rotate the engine forward a few degrees (like 2 or so) and shim the steering rack..
to rotate the motor forward you need to cut the 2 studs off the frame and reweld them 2 inches foward (to the front of the car).

I didn't get a whole lot of wheel hop when I was completely stock but if I dumped the clutch like it sounds you are doing, I would have gotten tons of hop! Launching this car is more a lesson in self control.
Since you are new to the car, the first thing I would try is what we call a street start. To do this release the clutch like you are driving normally, then start moderately pressing the gas pedal(do not smash the gas pedal). You will most likely start to lose traction as you max out 1st gear. No biggy, shift before you bounce the rev-limiter into 2nd. After these steps you should be good to go!
Once you start getting a better feel for the car, you can take more aggressive approaches!
