LED 3rd brake light gone wrong..HELP!

So i was looking at the how-to forum and saw how to use a 2004 Impala brake light (LED) and convert it for my cobalt. I took the part number listed and went to the Chevy dealer to purchase the $80 part. The guy at the counter tells me that the number has ben changed, and gave me a new number. He assured me that it was still for the Impala and that it was an LED. I work every day till 6, which is when they close, so i had my brother go pick it up when it came in. When i got home i noticed the light was smaller (only 6 LEDs) compared to the bigger one i was hoping for. The lights were for the new style car. Electric items and something else are NON RETURNABLE, so either I'm out $88, or maybe some one can help me wire additional LED's to make it larger. I would provide a pic, but do not know how to post it. Any help...please

I'm sure someone here can help you. Hey, you can always just wire it up and then center it and have a smaller brake light, that might not look all that bad.

i was thinking that. thanks for all the help guys. i only chose these lights because they are brighter. i talked to the dealer parts guy and he said he should be able to exchange it for me (get the bigger, correct year light bar).keep your fingers crossed.

dude dude.... you wasted your money... there's a vendor here that sells LED 3rd brake lights for like 20 bucks. I have one, works perfectly and just the right size.

Calm down ladies.....no need for a bitch fight this early in the week.

I have the "cheaper" LED 3rd brake light and have never had a single problem with it. And honestly it looks just fine to me.

To the OP, I am sure someone will be able to help you out. Hopefully it works out for ya!

There was no fighting.... Just saying that was uncalled for. I give the OP credit for doing something using OE parts....

Cut the bickering.

I would go to a local car customization shop or have a buddy good w/ electric wiring try to help you out.

The cheaper LED light is good, but to me, nothing beats the Impala light for brightness. The cheap one can barely be seen during the day. I originally had the cheaper one installed and I just ended up ripping one out of an Impala at the junkyard. Shoot me a PM kevin, and I'll see what I can do for you.

I've had the one from modern performance for over a year & no problems! Looks great too! It's bright enough. Plus it's only $25.00

thanks for the help. i ended up going back to the parts guy on the weekend and asked to return it for the new/correct part. they agreed to do it with no hesitation. about 2 days later they called me and said they have the new/correct Impala LED light in, but i would have to pay a "re-stocking" fee. i guess i will do it so i dont have to put up with this crap anymore.

Also, i did research and wanted to spend the extra cash because i heard from many that after market boards were dime and crap. i am pretty sure i can get some kind of warranty from the dealer on this.

AGAIN: thanks NCC

Put in the new lights using the great "how -to" thread. will post soon
