LNF Crate Engine with Standalone EMS

Ok, lets say GMPP offered an LNF crate engine you could throw in a Civic, old rat rod, old golf, kit car, etc. and it came with a standalone engine management system so it would just be plug and play pretty much and it was offered at a good price ($2-4k) would you do it and make a track only car for cheap or what?

I wanna hear a lively debate in here or I'm gonna get physical!

ah665 03-09-2009 09:20 PM

i guess if you had the platform to play with, already in your posession, then its not a bad idea. but if you already own a ss/tc then itd be hard to not wanna focus your attention on that, when you go to any tracks. but assuming you dont drive the tc and just wanna slap that motor in something you already have, that needs a motor, it seems like a great idea.

HunterKiller89 03-09-2009 09:53 PM

im sure they will. They have LSJ, LE5, L61 (pre '05 and post '05) crate engines already...im sure they'll make an LNF crate engine and a LAP crate engine as well. As for the standalone...i doubt they ever will. Best to just get an aftermarket one.

Only 2 posts? Really?

If I don't get some more in here I'm going to turn this into a who's GF is hotter thread!

elecblue06 03-10-2009 07:56 PM

it would be interesting would i personally do it .. no.. but i think it would be awesome

Sharkey 03-10-2009 09:35 PM

im looking at building an mg midget and an ecotec would be a killer motor for it. the problem lies in the transmission choice, the only option is the solstice tranny that costs a fortune. i beleive there is a hellhousing to mount a t5 behind the ecotec, so that could be another option. i most likley would use the v6 i have built out of my old cavy, turbo it, should be good for 350hp in a car that would weigh 1800lbs.

I say just turn a SS/TC into a track car.

Red06LS 03-10-2009 09:45 PM

rallyracer- You and my buddy would get along, he skeets over those ^^^^^ every day. Too bad theres almost no chance at them comming to the US.

I would like to put one in like a 280Z....I think that would be different than most people who just throw a big heavy v8 in them....;)

Put name here 03-10-2009 09:45 PM

Im a old musclecar guy but i absolutely love when people do engine swaps like a LNF in an old camaro or firebird. I have several big blocks around but i cant take the 5-6mpg that i get with them in my mustang, not to mention they weight 600pounds and make my car understeer like crazy.

ya that was basicaly my stance. :twothumbs but like i said, if you were just looking for a motor to throw in another platform you had lying around, then the LNF would still be sweet (assuming it wasnt a ton of work to make it happen).

LSJAY 03-11-2009 12:15 PM

I was thinking if I ever wrecked my car and the engine was still good I would put it into an aveo.

fakameanrepresent 06-01-2009 08:25 PM

i say do it

Area47 06-01-2009 08:53 PM

send me a setup and i will stick it in my 87 escort

Sw4y1313 06-04-2009 04:39 AM

I was thinking of putting a B20 swap into my crx but an LNF would be much better!

Nal 06-04-2009 05:42 AM

it'll be cool to drop it in the miata, but then again, meh that would be a solstice, lol, wouldn't mind droping one in one of this kitcars http://www.kitcarlist.com/images/bru...us7stalker.jpg

I'd be shocked if they offered it anywhere near that cheap. I don't mean to be negative, but cheaper options already exist, and with far better aftermarket support ; some modern civic/rsx are unbelievably boost friendly form the factory, sr20, 4G63 to name a few.

ecotecs are some of the most popular crate engines out there FYI. Of course you're right, I would imagine the K eries motors are high on the list as well

cmiller8006 06-06-2009 08:00 PM

I want to build a dual purpose long travel sand car/ street legal buggie with a LNF motor.

cakeeater 06-06-2009 08:03 PM

uhhhh 2-4k with a stand alone and a complete crate? Yea right. Try 6k+ at least.

REIGN SS 06-06-2009 08:28 PM

Throw it in an Atom!

nope. alpha is correct.

MachiBLue 06-06-2009 10:47 PM

That would be sweet. I can imagine a Datsun 510 with an LNF. Would be a nice alternative to the SR20.

A solid stand alone is at least a grand. so 4,500++ shipping, etc. You aren't getting an lnf crate with a stand alone for under 5 grand. Not from GM anyway.

Area47 06-06-2009 11:03 PM

they came from gm. i know exactly where they came from. you won't win this battle by quoting internet sites. said information is not on the internet.
